Funny thing; I've not changed my BOINC install or anything on my computer for *ages*,
and yet the RAC keeps climbing.
Can anyone explain this?!?

You've been accumulating more 'earning history', which is weighed into your RAC score along with your current output. Assuming your production to be constant, your RAC will continue to increase, just at a slower and slower rate: "asymptotically" in mathematical jargon. If you were to suddenly stop crunching your RAC would begin to fall, but again at an ever-decreasing rate; it would eventually show "0" but only because the fraction of a point remaining was being rounded down.

I'll take this opportunity to brag about having acquired 10,000 BOINC cobblestones.

Hi Alan,
Let's see if this works:

[edit]
Ok, it worked. What you need to do is reply to this post and do a copy/paste of the line of code above this edited text. Paste it into your signature edit box on you account message board preferences.

Here's how:

  • Go to your account page
  • Click the "View or edit" link next to "Message board preferences" in your preferences section.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the next page and you will see the edit box next to "Signature for message boards"
  • Paste the above copied code into that edit box
  • Click the "Update info" button at the bottom
  • That's it, the image will show in all your posts

Hope this helps you out.... (-:<

I know everyone is excited to reach a milestone. Sometimes it's exciting just to see that new credits have been posted to your account. But the excitement fades if you post a new milestone every day.

This thread will mean more to everyone if we confine our milestone posts to the bigger milestones. For new people that could be 1,000, 2,000, 3,000.... After that it's better if you set a higher goal. Like: 5,000, 10,000, 25,000, 50,000, 75,000, 100,000, 250,000, 500,000, 1,000,000.... Sort of like the badges on SETI "Classic".

It's true that every day brings new credits. But to make the Milestones thread more meaningful, please consider setting higher goals. Those higher, more significant goals, give the readers of this thread a greater reason to cheer you on.

One other thing, also please try to condense the congratulatory posts to one or two posts. This is just a suggestion. I wish all of you success in reaching your milestones. I should be reaching my next milestone goal sometime this coming week. I set that goal 7 months ago, WOW! (-:<

It would be kind of neat to see a milestone "Badge" show up in ones profile, After reasonable goals were reached. But nothing will ever live up to reaching a self set goal. :-]

OK guys, I've not yet set myself any BOINC goals nor have I posted in any milestone thread before so this is to celebrate achieving over 125,000 BOINC cobblestones and I'm setting my next (first) personal goal at 200,000 which by my guesswork should be about 22 March!!!

Keep crunching!

This is to announce that Byron Leigh Hatch of team Carl Sagan, and myself, Dogbytes of The Final Front Ear, will both cross the same total Boinc world credit milestone at the same time today...

1,000,000 Credits

I would like to note that Byron's contribution has been mostly in the Seti Project, while mine has been mixed among several projects.
Welcome to the Mega Club Bryon. Not just Carl's humanity but your own has
been a beacon on these forums. Beat ya to 2 mil.

Yeehaa!!!! Took over 7 months, but I finally did it. I finally reach my goal of 100K [100,134.36] credits, just about 5 minutes ago. And my RAC is at an all time high of 513. Now on to 150K, should take less than 7 months this time.... (-:<

Well will reach 50k Seti tonight, and 60k Boinc tonight as well. Plus an all time high RAC of 860 right now. On to 100k for Boinc and SETI. And keep shooting for a RAC of 1000+ in SETI. Already 1000+ in total Boinc.

One-Third of a Million in Two Months

I'm one of those hold-outs who crunched Classic to the bitter end, dabbling with BOINC on just a couple of old, slow boxes for a year to the tune of about 16K cobblestones before Berkeley pulled the plug. In doing so, I maximized my final Classic total, figuring there'll be plenty of time for BOINCing down the road; after all, it's more fun to come up from behind than to be first on the hill and battle to hold position. However, I never imagined that I'd be progressing this rapidly.

Last night, on the two-month anniversary of the Classic shutdown, I reached one-third of a million cobblestones on SETI-BOINC (click the cropped screen shot to see the current full page):

On the same day I also achieved 9th place on The Planetary Society's SETI-BOINC team, having been 13th place the day before.

I've ranked #1 in RAC on the team for a few weeks now. That RAC list includes other Classic hold-outs near the top: Santiago E. Diaz, David1339, Jack Gulley, and flwrchld53 all appear along with me on the first page (top 20 RAC on a team with 2,240 members). We've been chastised for not bringing our resources over to the BOINC side sooner, but our goals were clear, we stuck with them, and now we're making our marks here. And yes, it is more fun coming up from behind!
