Message 228160 - Posted: 8 Jan 2006, 23:28:02 UTC

I re-created this thread since #IV got too large for the dial-upers. Everyone is welcome to this thread and welcome to post. All I ask is that you follow the guidelines I have set for this thread, we need to keep the dial-upers in mind. Enjoy.... (-:<

SETI/BOINC MILESTONE THREAD GUIDELINES:

    01. You must be a current, active participant in the science of this project to post milestone messages.
    02. This thread is for announcements of milestones for any BOINC project.
    03. This thread will allow helping new users only if related to SETI/BOINC.
    04. This thread will not allow milestones not related to SETI/BOINC or other BOINC projects.
    05. This thread will not allow flaming any other users. [See this thread.]
    06. This thread will not allow minus rating, plus rating is fine.
    07. This thread will not allow any profanity.
    08. This thread will not allow 'stretching': no imbedded graphics/pics and while quoting a post with a very long URL in it, fix it if you know BBCode, otherwise delete it or place spaces in it to break it up so it will wrap properly. Another option is to use this site to create a new link. If you must include a graphic/pic in your post, create a link to it, no thumbnails.

HINTS FOR DIALUP USERS:

You can update your preferences in your account. Edit your "Forum preferences":

    01. Set "Show images as links". This will also create a link for images in signatures, but will not hide avatars.
    02. Set "Hide avatar images". All you will see is the username and stats.
    03. Set "Hide signatures". Some signatures have useful information, links to related sites and such and witty quotes. If you set #1 above, you will still see the information, but any images would be loaded as a link. If you set this, there will be no signatures displayed.

This new thread replaces
[IV],
[III], [II], [I], [Beta].

Hey... I've finally managed to get over 100+ RAC. (Recent Average Credit)

Odd that it doesn't seem so much based on CPU speed (as one might guess) as it is based on just how much you actually download and crunch. *hmm*

Well, I say this now... but my average has gone up and up, as I've slowly adjusted my General Preferences up from 0.3 days to 1.8 days worth of work.

Am I missing something here...? *blink* . o O ( Clueless..! )

Suggestion for Dial-Up Users:

04. In the section Display and Behavior set the option If a thread contains more than this number of posts to 30 or so and the option only display the first one and this many of the last ones to 25 or so, to minimize the load of old posts you have already seen. New and unread posts still will display.

Actually I reached a RAC of over 1000! *Yeah*

After switching my clients on my 3 comps to Optimized versions, my RAC went from just over 200 to almost 400. Still climbing so I dont know where it'll peak at.

Now if I can just get that other 1.2ghz 'Bird a new mobo.... :)

Should hit 25k tonight, finally. Guess it is time to add on a few more systems, seeing as I went to more projects overall. Still looking for more members for the team if any interested.

I love message boards..! *grin*

stickifying - the application of the value "sticky" to a message board post;
. . the act or process of "stickification"
. . See also "stickifiable"

Is it safe to say that an Optimized Client is "always" an improvement?

I'm working off a laptop (see my 'puters), and find myself more of the mentality "if it ain't broke, don't try an' fix it", so I'm hesitant to go messing about with alternate software options at present...

Any thoughts, peoples?

Just passed half a million over night. I've been using optimized seti apps for about 6 months now and have seen a huge improvement in most of my machines.

Cx, this thread is not for general discussion, it's primarily for posting and discussing milestones. Getting help for problems is also allowed, as long as any discussion doesn't overwhelm the topic of this thread. There are several threads about optimized clients, which is not a "problem" to be getting help for in this thread. Please use those threads for getting optimized client information.

Let us see what your milestones are. Thanks.... (-:<
