Sad sad sad. Intel 386SX 33 MHZ here. Anyone still remember the days of the turbo button and the MHz display? I thought it was super cool when they got the display to read 100 finally.

Does anyone remember what the turbo button really did? My brain hadn't developed enough at that time to understand something that a 20 year old friend told me then - I must've been about 8 or 9 years old. I'd forgotten completely about it till I read this post.

The Turbo button let you slow the PC down so that you could play older games etc that relied on the processor speed for their timing. By default, turbo was usually 'on' (so the PC ran at full speed) and you used the button to turn it off and slow things down.

yep Early grames did their Timimg loops with things like For loops instead of Clock calls.

like DeathTrack [combat car rasing game] was difficult on a 286, but impossible to play on a 386.

Is there an optimzed Boinc beta that has the resource share download bug fixed?
I have two projects running with sharing 90% and 10%.
The project with 10% always downloads 100% and then goes into panic mode.
This code got moved to the servers. Then the servers got too much load and it was removed, but hasn't been put back in the Boinc client on the current release.
I believe this is added to the current beta 5.3.16.
Does anybody have anymore information?

Trux has the best BOINC Core for DCF that is based (I think on the 5.3.x).

As far as I can tell the 5.2.6 or above would have the problem that you describe. The "Alpha" BOINC Core that you mention 5.3.16 is still in testing...

For the Enhanced Beta 5.2.13 is recommened...

I want to use the optimized BOINC from CrunchR's website, but want to get some clarification first on how to do it.

The steps I'm not quite sure about are steps three and four which I have listed below. Could someone explain to me exactly what I do with these files? I mean, I know I need to copy them into the BOINC program files folder, but I'm not sure what do do about "how to hand [the binary]." Which one is the binary and to what do I rename it once I transfer it to the BOINC program files folder?

The fourth step I'm not sure about either. What is being extracted into the BOINC folder?

3. The Download provides only the binary, the debug database and an app_info.xml. Make sure you know how to handle it (or simply rename the new binary to the name of setiathome executable in your projects folder.
4. extract the files in the archive into your boinc folder to "../projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu".

Thanks for the help on this!
