This maybe somewhat of a repeat question from others but here goes anyway. I have recieved no credit whatsoever from this new version. I have been doing this version since the middle of July, and until I see some credit the program has been shut DOWN. I refuse to input and get nothing in return, at least the old program was honest.

do you know how the program works>? read the link below.. and read the news on the main page as it tells you why you are not getting credit.

Apart for having to wait for 3 people to all return the one result (which can take a variable amount of time)... there is a separate issue right now.

The machines they call VALIDATORS are currently offline. These machines take the returned results, and give out credit. They have been offline for 4 days... so NOONE is getting credit added.

BUT as soon as they are turned back on (they are most likely currently doing more important things) EVERYONE that has returned credit will see a HUGE increase in their stats.

Its not that your not getting results, its just the results are not yet processed. But just wait until they are *ZOOM*

Didn't say I didn't like it, I just don't want to be doing research for them and getting nothing in turn. If it wasn't for us users they would be way behind from what they are now. Maybe they shouldn't release the new program until everything works correctly!!!! Gates must be running this show too.

Zain Upton has a point: the most recent delay in getting credit is because the validator is off; but prior to that a software bug caused them to rework the database and some credits that should have been given were lost. If you haven't seen any credit since mid-July, these are some reasons--then there's the 3-results-that-agree-are-needed-for-credit rule, but you can read about that on links from the SETI@home home page. So, when the validator comes back on line you may or may not get credit, and you may not get credit for all the work you have completed.

As Jeff says, you can go (back) to classic SETI@home, but eventually (when SETI II runs better), classic will be shut down and this will be the only SETI@home option. There are also other projects. Clear as mud?

So if I understand this right, I could crunch for these folks for years and years and if three(3)of the same WU don't match I could possibly never get any credit at all????? Forget it, find some other sucker to do your work if thats the case.

Nope. It's not if they don't match as far as "credit claimed", it's the science side that needs to be a match: gaussians, triplets/etc. And with the same input data, any correctly-functioning computer --WILL-- get the same results (provided they use the same UNtampered-with software).

They only send the unit to three people (including you), so you only have to wait for those three people (including you) to return the results. If someone doesn't return it within TWO WEEKS, it is sent to another person, and those who have returned it will have to wait until that person sends it back in. Generally, you should get your credit in less than a month; usually within a week or so of you completing the unit. If the planets line up perfectly, you could even get credit within a few minutes of returning the unit.

However, the project has had a lot of other problems lately. The "validator" processes are not currently granting ANY credit due to some of those problems. According to the website front page news, they are close to turning them back on to deal with the backlog. We should all start getting a bunch of credit soon. :)
