A thought just occoured to me while I was reading some mars rover news.
It said that there major discovery had been that there was water at some time on mars. Didn't we all ready know that. As any Year 5 child will be able to tell you, mars' colour is from the oxidisation of iron. This requires water (sommat like: 2Fe + 3H20 => Fe203 + 3H2) so we knew that there must have been water there at sometime, which sort of means that they (NASA etc.) must have known that water was there at sometime BEFORE spirit and oppurtunity even got built.
