I've just watched this program from Discovery on tv: http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/tsunami/tsunami.html It was amazing and interesting to see how much the plates have moved!  Undersea Tectonic Cliff A mosaic of the seafloor along the slope created by the collision of tectonic plates that form the undersea trench west of the Island of Sumatra shows uplift that caused the massive tsunamis in Dec. 2004. Any mention of how high the pictured tectonic cliff is? According to the show, about 2 meters...but there are 2 of them. One on top of the other...both from same quake. Scary!!! You said it!!! NASA scientists using data from the Indonesian earthquake calculated it affected Earth's rotation, decreased the length of day, slightly changed the planet's shape, and shifted the North Pole by centimeters. The earthquake that created the huge tsunami also changed the Earth's rotation. Unlike the Pacific, the Indian Ocean did not have a system to alert residents of coastal areas that a tsunami was imminent.
