It has been 3 days in a row by now that the program keeps trying and failing to retrieve the logo and background. I keep getting the message: SETI@home - 2004-08-05 14:11:57 - Temporarily failed download of background_1088848100 SETI@home - 2004-08-05 14:14:38 - Started download of background_1089037256 SETI@home - 2004-08-05 17:14:32 - Started download of user_logo_1088848100 SETI@home - 2004-08-05 17:23:36 - Temporarily failed download of user_logo_1088848100 SETI@home - 2004-08-05 18:09:52 - Started download of user_logo_1089037256 SETI@home - 2004-08-05 18:16:29 - Started download of background_1089037256 This is independent that I do receive - analize - send back and get one or two units once in a while. Can someone tell me why is that happening and what has to be done (if anything at all) to end this failure in the downloading of both items????? |

Either nobody knows, or no one wants to help, or it could be it is nothing to worry about, but..... I keep having the problem indicated in my previous message. No help? Or no problem? Independently of that I continue receiving, analizing, uploading and downloading units with normallity. |

If you see my first message and look at the dates, you can imagine I am beginning to become confused (I think that is the word)as a minimum. And it keeps adding to complete more days, on same subject: By the way in the transfers window, it shows something that reads like this: -1.#]% Size 0 bytes SETI@home - 2004-08-06 09:31:13 - Started download of background_1088848100 SETI@home - 2004-08-06 09:40:19 - Temporarily failed download of background_1088848100 Third call for help, what is this???? |

Hey Liberto, It sounds like you have set in your Seti@Home preferences a logo and background that the program can't find. Either change the URL to the proper address or clear the logo and background fields and the problem should clear up. :-) TTYL Richard |

Then waited for some 20 minutes and cleared the logo and background fields in my preferences (just blank). Guess what?? No dice. Tried again the update and it continues to try to retrieve a logo and a background, so now I have 6 lines showing in the transfers section :( even with my preferences edited as blank in both cases. Units, received, continue working, reporting, no problem but this logo and background starts to get to my nerves. Any other idea?? |

Sorry I answered this one somewhere else and just now spotted this thread. BOINC will eventually give up on the bad URL, it may take a few weeks though. The only way I know of to get rid of it quicker is to do a clean reinstall. Uninstall, delete the BOINC directory and reinstall. This will kill any work that is on your computer from all projects though. John Keck BOINCing since 2002/12/08 |

Otherwise by the time I get to one unit left, I might try the clean reinstall. Will proceed as per your info. |

I solved it the dirty way: You just might search for the bad paths in your \boinc\*.xml files and delete the sections (after shuting down your boinc client!). you must delete the part of your local saved preferences in 'account_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml' and the download paths which I think were stored in 'client_state.xml' (not sure!) After restarting BOINC the job was done. If this doesn't work you can still reinstall BOINC as well ;-) dr.phees ------------------------------ [b]phees solutions[b] |

Great. Your explanation did the job for me too. |
