Hi Geoff! Your avatar is the same as a person I had a disagreement with and who said he would leave the boards, so I thought you were him, having second thoughts!

But nice it was you!

I only have one prezzie, I could wish for right now. I don't know if I'll get it, I'm afraid I won't, but one can only hope!

No, I won't tell, it's something that belongs in my personal life! ;-)

What do I want for christmas? Well... I'm sad to admit I'm quite materalistic... so naturally I want a 42" plasma screen, a new computer, a car, a house, a cottage by the sea, plus one in the mountains, a cabin cruiser, plus more.

But my highest wish is this year, as always... (dare I say it?) ...a soft package. Yes, I like big soft packages. Not only soft, but warm and cuddly, cozy and cute, hourglass figure in a small santa dress with miniskirt and white net stockings and swelling (.)(.)s... who pops up from a large carton with my name on it and says with a big smile: "Tada! I'm yours for the weekend!" <sigh> ;oD

I want instant and intricate knowledge of the HP-UX operating system, IBM SAN boxes, fiberchannel storage networks, Oracle databases, PERL, VMWare ESX servers, BIND, a crate of caffeinated beverages and some stress relief devices of Santa's choice to help me transition into this new job of mine.

A bunch of Santa's helpers as consultants could be nice too.

Any help appreciated :)

Y'all have a great holiday season.

LOL! Well... ok:

Intel Pentium 4 "Extreme Edition" 3.4ghz H/T CPU with 2mb L2 cache onboard for the i875/478 pin socket chipset my Abit IC7-Max3 motherboard has...

(For faster SETI processing, and faster on other cache memory/memory dependent operations as well, replacing my current stock Intel Pentium 4 @ 3.2ghz H/T SSE-2 & 512kb L2 cache).

Unfortunately?

Well, I've been waiting for more than 2 years now for the prices of those CPU's to drop, since Intel's moved onto diff. pinouts & multicore capabilities in their "latest/greatest" offering(s)...

STILL, that price, man... it's WAY too expensive imo still @ roughly $950 per-CPU to buy one according to pricewatch.com & sites like it!

So, I figured if I could wait, then newer Intel CPU offerings & mobo packaging pinout-wise etc. would 'drive-down' the costs of THIS model of CPU!

(Because it's THE highest my motherboard can handle & best CPU there is for it from what I have seen)...

APK

P.S.=> Santa's not THAT 'imprudent' imo, to go & shell-out nearly $1,000 U.S. Dollars on a single computer part, & neither am I...

e.g. -> The highest I am willing EVER to spend is around $500 typically (& that's usually for vidcards, but I am AGP slotted here, no PCI-Express, so I am @ the top of my game possible here on that imo using a NVidia based GeForce 6800 OC by BFG there & cannot upgrade further on this mobo, an Abit IC7-Max3)...

That "EE" Intel P4 cpu edition?

It's STILL (again, 2 yrs. later now while I have been waiting) @ nearly DOUBLE my usual "threshold of pain/acceptance" prices-wise... oh well! apk

Beat you to it. It's been my most wanted item for the last 17 years or so.

Actually, what I wanted most of all this Christmas was for Xorg X11R7.0 to be available for SuSE 10.0
They've finally implemented support for my TV tuner and I'd like to put it to use.
