Hi there

After not having provided stats for seti@home for almost an entire month now we will pick up where we left.
Predictor@home has also been added to the list of projects that are monitored.

I discovered a tiny bug in the program that generated the HTML code for the signatures, so those of you who use that code should really go to the BOINC.dk website and let the new program generate bugfree HTML for you.
And while you are at it you can take a look at all those new beautifull signatures that people have submitted - also note that you can now see more than just the last 10 signatures.

The speed of the user charts and team charts have (hopefully) been increased dramatically and the new internet connection makes us able to give you high quality JPGs and PNGs.

I will continue to stream updates in here as they are made available on the site during the next 24hours.

A couple of links that you may need:
Stats from seti@home, predictor and others
Signature images that can be used freely

As something entirely new we are going to try XML exporting the stats that we generate.
This is an easy way for single users or small teams to get stats from any project they participate in. It could be used on homepages, in IRC bots, BOINC addon programs - you name it.

To start out with only user stats is exported. You can find out more about the XML stats and the format by looking at the XML stats page at BOINC.dk.
Later on teams will be able to get their member-table as XML as well.

If you have any suggestions, corrections or simply want to say whether it is a good or bad idea then go ahead and post a few comments. The format may change and features may be added - it's still experimental.

I've just translated our project-list page to english and added the soon-to-come climateprediction.net project to the list.
Predictor@home was down while I was doing the research for this revision of the list, but I'll catch up on that one when it comes online again.

We also mirror the movies from climateprediction.net's openday late last month.

One of the other new features (has been around a while but has finally come in use) is the use of CPIDs to identify users across projects.
On the bottom of your userpage at BOINC.dk you will see a tiny list of project you participate in and the totals.
Only if you have used the same email adress to sign up for those projects will you be able to get the list.

An example can be seen on my page at BOINC.dk

I saw that and I like it. Now we need a signature that shows every project we are in, the credits for each, and the combined total. Good work!

Hi Janus,

great Job. Very good design. Applause.

Just found a small bug, or am I wrong?

It's on the user stats. look here:

Honie General Info: Name(and url) Honie (userid 47851)
Created 2004-01-20 09:41
Total 35475.848084 Cobblestones
#100 of 32958 users (more than 99.7%) - Charts
Recent 1133.74277 Cobblestones
Team SETI.Germany
#76 of 9537 members (more than 99.203%) - See team stats
Hosts 19 (Last contact with one of these was: 2004-08-05 12:34)

the rank #76 is my world rank for the RAC.
my team rank is #5 (I think just the wrong variable)

Just another question.
In some statistics my rank is #100
In the official stats it is #102

Did you loose 2 entries? (The results are exactly the same)

But very good work. Keep going!

Hi Janus!

Congratulations. You've made a great job. This is really stats beyond anything else.

Like the former 'speaker' I'm looking forward to the day you've corrected minor inaccuracies. For instance in our team (id 30541) four members have the same team rank. :-)

Greetings from Kirsten, DK

Not all changes has been uploaded yet - now the changes that has to do with team ranking should be there though - if you still seem to have problems then post again and I'll look into it.

To avoid further confusion, these are the changes that are not yet uploaded:
- Summed cross-project stats chart for users
- Signature support for multiprojects
- XML export of teams
- XML export of projects
- XML export of historical data (not complete yet either)
- Project stats images (waiting for all projects to switch over to the new format)

There has been some startup problems with the network at the new place - these are fixed now and normal operation (updating stats) will continue again tomorrow.
The problem was that sometimes the outgoing bandwidth would be heavily limited by the ingoing download of updates - this caused the site to appear to respond very slowly.

Janus,

Now, if you could only make the PHP for signature request simpler ...

Not only does it screw up my account page, I can't show both seti and predictor...

is there any way to cut down on the repitition ... especially for the dirt simple ones ...

Heck, can we just number the simple ones with 1, through 9?

Then the string

src="http://www.boinc.dk/auto.php?user=881&project=pah&input=1086001126+-+userstats&layout=1086001126+-+userstats.jpg"

becomes;

src="http://www.boinc.dk/auto.php?user=881&project=pah&input=1+-+userstats&layout=1+-+userstats.jpg"

even better:

src="http://www.boinc.dk/auto.php?user=881&project=pah&input=1"

I mean, why else am I calling this PHP handler? I want the image, and I want it simple ...

Best:

src="http://www.boinc.dk/auto.php?u=881&p=pah&i=1"
src="http://www.boinc.dk/auto.php?u=1475&p=sah&i=1"

Now, there is a sample of terse. :)

Byron,

> thanks <A><B>Janus
> thanks <A><B>Paul D. Buck</B>

You are welcome ...

As far as updating the Account page, there is a limit to the size of the signature line. Exceed that number and you will get the appearance of no update. The number is ~250 characters. If you exceed that, the update will not "take" ...

That is the reason I am/have beaten poor Janus up about the length of his signatures. :)

If they were as short as I have shown, I could display both my SETI@Home and Predictor accounts. As it is, I can only show one or the other. Unless I could come up with a way to DL the images and then reload them from my own site.

Any how, that is discussed in the HTML Lesson towards the bottom where I talk about signatures.

Your suggestion is already on my todo-list - you suggested it more than two weeks ago. It is still on the drawing board, but you can just as well get the idea now:
It is going to use the "backwards dot"-format. Just like saying "I am user number 1234 from SETI@home, I want a signature from BOINC.dk - give me a standard one numbered 22"
This is 1234.sah.sig.boinc.dk?22 in the "backwards dot"-format. Prepend a http:// and you're finished.

Please note that it isn't supported yet. I guess this is the shortest possible way that you will be able to access the signatures generated by BOINC.dk in the future.

The reason why the URL is so long is that the system is extremely flexible - in the future the frontend will enable you to choose what text-layout you want to use and a list of the most popular ones will be available when selecting the background image and generating the HTML code.
Those "specially made" signatures will not be available using the "backwards dot"-format.

> > I saw that and I like it. Now we need a signature that shows every project we

Hehe, they will be here - I just need to figure out some kind of language to layout them in. Biggest problem is: How does the author of the signature know how many projects the user is registered with? The background is typically made to fit a certain number...scaling it is not an option (lowers quality too much).
I'll need to make it possible to select what projects should be displayed (project list, top 3 projects, 3 projects that was most recently submitted work to etc. etc.)
So although the actual stuff that makes those signatures and charts is done you will have to wait a bit till I sort out the last details about how users should access it.

@Janus,

I mistakenly used my account # instead of my account user id# with a boinc.dk signature. Now when I try to correct the problem with the signature on my edit account page, the 'update account' button is no longer there (so no changes take effect). Have you run into this before and do you know of a fix?

Press this link to clear your account information - you will have to setup your name, location etc again.
You will have to be logged in in order for this to work.

I further suggest that you find the places where you have posted the signature and edit the posts so that they no longer contain your key.

No problem =)

I took the time to write the code that parses the "backwards dot"-format so now you can use:
<img src="http://USERID.PROJECTID.sig.boinc.dk?SIGID">
where acceptable USERID is the range of users in the project, PROJECTID is one of {sah,pah,boinc_alpha,boinc_beta}, SIGID is some number (not all works). When I get a little more time I'll add the code to the HTML generator so that you can pick them in the usual way.

For instance:
