Every year normally Jan I remove/backup all web downloaded programs and data files and reformat my HDD and reinstall everything again. This is the 1st time i'll be doing it with BOINC as one of the programs. How is the best way to handle it without messing up my Projects? One of them the most concern about is C@H?

Ricky

As for BOINC & S@H clients:
------------------------------------
1. Exit/close the clients.
2. Backup the directory BOINC to another disk (or CD-ROM).
3. Do the reformatting and stuff.
4. After everything is up and running again, reinstall BOINC.
5. Before starting BOINC, restore the backup you made in step 2.
6. Start BOINC and everything should be as it was before.

To be extra safe:
----------------------
1. Press the button "No new work".
2. Let the work queue drain itself, so everything is uploaded and reported.
3. Exit/close the clients.
4. Backup the directory BOINC to another disk (or CD-ROM).
5. Do the reformatting and stuff.
6. After everything is up and running again, reinstall BOINC.
7. Before starting BOINC, restore the backup you made in step 2.
8. Start BOINC and everything should be as it was before.

Remember to take backup of everything else beside BOINC also! :o)
There's actually a free program which makes volume backups to XML files(!)
I haven't used it myself, since I already have Acronis True Image - which is extremely good.

Good luck!

set the projects to No New Work, finish as much work as possible, upload and report.
suspend BOINC.
exit BOINC
burn the BOINC directory to CD/DVD (depending on size)
format, reinstall.
install BOINC to the same directory it is in now, but don't start it.
copy the contents of the BOINC directory on CD/DVD into the fresh install.

note to self: learn to type faster

You might want to suspend CPDN. It reports trickles all the time and you might just invalidate that WU if you don't suspend the work before doing the backup.

Thanks for all your help! I'll give it a try.
