Not requiresd for BOINC, if you require a cache of work units increase the 'connect to' option in your account general preferences.

Suggest you increase in small steps until BOINC can work out actual performance and habits of you and your computer.

SetiQueue was fantastic for dialup-users running SetiQueue on that PC connecting to the internet. The other PCs in the home net are receiving workunits from the SetiQueue PC.
And for this constellation I think currently no pendant is available for the boinc client?

Georg

Correct, because of some cheating in Classic, they have decided to make each machine responsible for each result it crunches. So the same machine must download, crunch and upload the results it downloaded (now there have been painstaking ways to get around it, but it does not work very clean).

The queueing works well. Once your machine has done about 7-10 days of work, it should know where it's going, and you can adjust the amount of days you want to queue up.

This answers my questions (I was/am also a user of SetiQ) on what options there are - but I don't think people really uinderstand why SetiQ was so useful to some people.

At one point I had three computers at home running Seti. Although they were networked together, I had no "Internet Sharing" of any kind and each had to dial up separately and get work units. This was just not going to happen automatically and so most of the time the machines were just sitting there doing nothing. After installing SetiQ I could let one of them handle the downloads for all the others. Then I started using SetiQ on my laptop - and downloaded work units at work (over a high speed connection). That was magic.

Probably some of you are thinking - why deal with dial-up? I don't have a choice. I live in the country. Even phone service is spotty. As I speak I am connected up (I use Freesco for "Internet Sharing" now) at 26400 (yes - even though the modem is capable of 56k, the fastest I have ever connected at is 29.4). In classic units I was processing as many as 14 units per day. I can't devote my dial-up to downloading Boinc units so I will probably have to leave my network dialed up over night to cover this using Boinc. I am going to switch (I know, not much time left) but I may not stick depending on just how much time I end up needing to be connected.

Jim
