Message 211062 - Posted: 12 Dec 2005, 2:36:47 UTC

I have 10 work units to report & 1 trying to download & 5 left to run. I'm getting the message
"12/11/2005 9:28 PM||Couldn't connect to hostname [setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu]
12/11/2005 9:28 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed with a return value of -106
12/11/2005 9:28 PM|SETI@home|No schedulers responded
12/11/2005 9:32 PM||Couldn't connect to hostname [setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu]
12/11/2005 9:33 PM||Couldn't connect to hostname [setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu]"
as well as many of the other messages people are reporting.

What is the deal???
Sandy
Blessings,
Sandy

Out of 5 computers, have only uploaded three today. Have one download waiting on my racehorse and out of work on it. Restarted Classic, that's fun with the notices on it, but it beats shutting down.

Ran out of seti work on 21 machines. Can't upload or download. Doesn't seem to be getting any better. Switched to Einstein@Home for now, with several boxes off to save on power bill.

My problems are minor compared to some (7 WU waiting to upload, 1 waiting to report) but I have not been able to upload or report since 9 December either.
I have suspended SETI on all my computers for the time being. I'd disable network access too (to stop wasting bandwidth with all the failed connections) but then I can't connect to other projects either.

I haven't had a WU upload since 12/9... still have 27 pending uploads across my 2 machines.... Just finished crunching my last cached SETI WU... Predictor is getting a lot of cpu time in my house now....

Anxiously waiting,

Patrick

I managed to squeeze in two WU uploads yesterday, but nothing since. And the two I uploaded can't report results. Plus, I updated some of my preferences but now it seems the scheduler is down also. I have eleven in my transfer queue. Meantime, I've started to concentrate on my other projects until this SETI business gets cleared up. I'm starting to miss that SETI number-crunching screen!

It appears, and I'm just conjecturing because I'm starting to
see movement again that things are clearing up. Slowly, but
surely.

It is strangely comforting to know I'm not the only one who can't upload. I'm not sure why?

Seti@home is really little more than another grant project, using students and other donated resources. Everyone is probably cramming for winter exams, scoring exams, taking part in Holiday parties or planning for their New Year's Eve blast off. There will probably be no meaningful resolution of SETI@Home issues until next year.

Unless your computer is a source of winter heating for your home, turn it off for a while and socialize with other residents of the third planet from the sun - or donate your resources to another BOINC project.

Before this a few WUs were getting uploaded but nothing since the 9th for me. Is this just my bad luck or has turning off downloads affected uploads as well?

Yeah, I have had a few get uploaded today... not many, though.

I have 22 WU waiting to be uploaded. I've only been getting one through a day from Dec. 8th and before. No success since then. My statistics graph is completely flat for 7 days. I turned new SETI work off. I'm doing other projects instead.

Just had 4 S@H and 1 S@H beta get uploaded... the beta got reported, but the regular S@H ones haven't yet (scheduling server is wonky too)... got 8 S@H left to upload. Things are moving a bit, but it ain't there yet.

Nothing appears to me moving off my machines since the 8th. I've got about a 100 on the main box and couple more with about 70, plus several more, slower machines trying to play.

I am now out of work.

WU waiting for validation has not shown any progress for the past day, so that must be ET stealing the results that point out where they are.

I fired Seti Classic back up on my machine with BOINC, so that it is doing something almost useful. That continues to crunch just fine, running off the same network connection at Berkeley. So to be sure, there is no network problem.

For BOINC/Seti, I have only been able to get one WU downloaded per day the past week. Less uploaded. Nothing the past two days.

The DL servers have been taken off line to drain the caches and ease the upload problem. Why not crunch something else. One of the concept behind Boinc was to share Seti success with distributed computing with other worthwhile projects.

I have around 600 WU's ready to upload. All my boxes stopped their uploads around "10 Dec 2005 6:24:18 UTC". They're all within a couple of minutes of each other. I'm still crunching since I still have a lot of WU's on each box. As long as I'm crunching I'm not complaining. Even if I run out I'll just give my boxes a well deserved break until everything starts working. Hey, I'll even save some money! ;)

Still nothing is uploading. All machines are out of work to crunch, so will be looking at adding a project or two until SETI gets things fixed.

Just your bad luck.
I've retunred more results today than i had in the previous 6 or so.

Same here. No upload since 9th Dec. So I suspended downloading new WUs. I will turn on download when the last WU (at the moment 11 are waiting) is reported.

Greetings
