I appreciate the effort the devs are making to manage the issues we are experiencing with the influx of new people to BOINC.

From the home page news:

December 9, 2005
We have turned off work distribution for a bit to allow result uploads to catch up. We will be extending the deadline for returning results so that the troubles with the result upload handler will not result in lost credit.

Interestingly I have not uploaded a single WU since 9th Dec.

Before this a few WUs were getting uploaded but nothing since the 9th for me. Is this just my bad luck or has turning off downloads affected uploads as well?

I've had 3 of my 4 upload. Just the luck of the draw

As do most of us. :)

Interestingly I have not uploaded a single WU since 9th Dec.

I've had a handful upload - out of hundreds.

It's downloads that have virtually stopped here (clients not even trying most of the time). Even more disconcerting - in the last few minutes, one download attempt failed with a permanent error. :(

Be lucky

Neil

Hi,
not a single result
Dec 4th uploaded 5 results (1 success, 2 success pending, 2 with client errors)
since... only client errors
i believe except the two pending, the rest will be lost.
Maybe the tapes from Arecibo reprogrammed the servers,
an alien intervention??? ;)

My 36-hour cache expires in about six hours. If I have time, I'll have to try to find another project to crunch until I receive a new download. If I don't have time I'll just check for a new unit when I wake up at night. If there's no unit by then, I'll just turn off the machine. Maybe I can find time dark and early tomorrow morning to find that unit or another project, after exercise and breakfast.

It seems like it is going to get worse before it gets better. I have hundreds of seti work units waiting to be sent, and on this machine I am down to only four more work units to be run. It takes an hour per unit, so I'll be out shortly.

I have had over a dozen upload today, all by itself. I leave the software alone. I do not micromanage. I allow it to do it's own thing, and it is. I still have 40+ to go, but they will get there, eventually.

I had a few uploads succeed yesterday (maybe 10 or so), but I still have a hundred or so WU waiting to upload.
Despite the best efforts by the BOINC SETI staff, I agree that it going to get worse before it gets better.
Most of my machines have a day or two or work left to do.

Just been having a look at my BOINC Manager again, I just let it run its course. I have noticed something that may explain why I am getting no uploads. The completed WU queue is getting larger as WUs are finished, it stands at 67 completed WUs at this time. I have noticed that the number of WUs actively trying to upload at any one time is also increasing. Even though the scheduler backs off the failed upload for an increasing period of time the number of WUs activitely trying to upload at anyone time is increasing as the queue of results to return increases. There are 12 WUs trying to upload right now. So as my completed queue increases my CC will be adding more connection attempts to the BOINC servers. If this is true for everybody with large queues of WUs to return the number of requests to upload will be growing meaning we will all be swamping the servers.

Is there anyway to limit the number of connection attempts at any one time?

Also does anybody know how the retry timer works? Is it based on time that the CC is running or is it based on clock time? I.e. if I turn my PC off for longer than the longest retry time will the CC try to upload all the WUs when I restart or will it just be at the same state as when I switched the PC off?

Since december 9th, app 2300UTC my two main crunchers have uploaded 15 and 23 results. Seems to be getting better, less red lines like

"Couldn't connect to hostname [setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu"
and
"Attempting to communicate with [setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu] timed out"

but more of

"Temporarily failed upload of 22ap04ab.2370.8496.178384.75_2_0: error 500"
and even
"Finished upload of 21mr05ab.11361.25280.928404.108_1_0"
"Throughput 411 bytes/sec"

Greetings,
Sander

The bottom line for me is that I completed more WUs this weekend than I uploaded, so overall, I have more to upload now than I did on Friday.

Still not uploading. I am seeing fails on the attempt at least now and not cannot attach to seti. So am hopeful my machines will finally get to dump some WU's back to seti soon. Seeing as most of the machines have 10+ to upload. I feel it may take some time to clear all 20 machines.
