I just had a hard drive crash and during the re-installation process on the new hard drive, I will get as far as the BOINC Manager popping up on my screen (it'll say "Connecting to localhost in the lower right-hand corner"), but then it siezes up. It never asks me to input "http://setiathome.berkeley.edu" or anything. I have to kill the program. I've tried un-installing it and then re-installing several times but that doesn't seem to work -- the same thing happens each time. I've also thought that disabling Norton Anti-Virus might help, but it doesn't. The only thing I can think of is that when I reinstalled the OS, for some reason Windows decided to call my hard drive "E:" and not "C:". I tried setting up a virtual C: (using the subst command from the dos line) but that didn't seem to work. Does anyone have any clues as to what I should do? When you see "connection failed" and it doesn't connect to "localhost", what that means is that the boinc manager (on your puter), can establish communications with the boinc Daemon (on your puter), through loop back address 127.0.0.1(localhost) via port 1043. Please select "file" then "select computer" leave all boxes empty, click OK OR enter localhost, leave password empty, click OK OR enter 127.0.0.1, leave password empty, click OK |
