Almost 1 week passed and the problems still continue, no uploads, no downloads, and we still get no feedback about when everything is fixed and running smoothly ... the admins says that day by day the thing is getting better but i don't see anything better ...
Unfornatelly i must agree with the people who says that BOINC SUCKS ...

Best regards to all

ps.i still don't understand why classic seti is still running ...

I'm sure they're trying to make the transition as smooth as possible with the hardware and staff, they have.

Yes, I also think it's annoying to look at the two WU's I've got stuck in upload the past days, but I just cruch other projects in the meantime. So BOINC doesn't sucks, as it makes me able to do so.

They'll close down Seti Classic the 15'th, so it'll be running untill then. Then the people, who want their last Classic WU's, maybe to reach some milestone, can do so.

Oh that one is easy to answer: it's because we now write December 10 (here in Europe anyway) and the shutdown date for SETI Classic is December 15.

EDIT: Fuzzy beat me to it... :)

We will be extending the deadline for returning results so that the troubles with the result upload handler will not result in lost credit.

i hope this latest news doesn't mean that servers/bandwith problems will continue for more time then expected, and the only way to keep the "candy" in our mouths is delaying the deadline period of millions data work units ... pendings

Well, they're doing something to "fix" the problem[s], I've had both uploads and downloads successfully done. BOINC doesn't SUCK!!!! People just need to have patience, and weather the storm. The way I see it, there's 2 things one can do, under these circumstances: 1. be patient. 2. detach from SETI and crunch other projects.

Oh, but I have read that other projects are having problems of their own, some, same as SETI. Hmmmm.... (-:< >:-)

I've been out of town for a week, when I left I had 10 uploads for Seti waiting due to their problems. When I got back home today I still have 7. I'm not worried about whether or when they will get uploaded (they have a deadline of the 17th, and the Seti admins have already commented that deadlines will be extended) It's not a BOINC problem, as I've been able to do work for Einstein and another project.

If it was BOINC then every project would be having the same problem right now, and that's not the case. All my work for the other projects downloaded & uploaded just fine.

I know some people do not wish to attach to any other project, just crunch Seti. If that's the case then grin and bear it, hopefully it will be fixed soon, it usually is. If you want to run something when Seti has problems then I'll be more than happy to provide some links to other projects that are still open to the public.

You can always set your resource share to "your preferences". Setting it at 99 for Seti and 1 for another means that, in a situation like this, BOINC will download work from another project you are attached to.

If I didn't feel that confident about the program doing what it was supposed to then I would not have left it unattended for a week.

(stepping down from my soapbox) ;-)

Before complaining that it all sucks read this post http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=24612 about the reasons why they chose the BOINC software instead of the old (unstable) seti software. I think most people have forgotten about the outages whit the old seti software.

"7 uploads waiting"?? I've got 43 and counting. I won't say anything sucks because I don't know just how hard the problem is and how hard they're working on it. Still...

I thinks some people are confused because they can't distinguish
between boinc and seti. The bottleneck is at the seti servers
and not everywhere. Boinc can download and upload easily lots of
works on other projects

43 uploads waiting? I have 7 pc's (4 on 1 network, 3 on another) with over 100 work units to upload & I haven't gotten one to upload in over 6 days. They put a note out Friday that they're only processing uploads now to handle the backlog. Well, I haven't seen upload go through since they put that note out. I don't know what they're processing but it doesn't appear to be my units. :-(

Hmmm, some 624,634 hosts (or thereabouts) all trying to reach the server at once. What are the odds you're getting through?

Half that number and what are your odds?
Heck, 100,000 hosts all trying at once to reach the Seti server. Can they all do it? And that every second of every day...

OK then Mr. Wizard, what is the number of hosts supportable by the SETI servers and by what amount can it be exceeded before everyone is processing more units than can be uploaded? No, I'm not picking on you, but it would be interesting to hear from these Wise Guys just how they propose to keep growing as fast as the number of hosts do. I guess we're just being forced to accept using other projects? I'll have to start looking for another fun one.

I have been able to get about 5 results uploaded in the last week - so only 15 or so to go. It like watching paint dry.

It does seem from the technical info on the site that the technology being used is being
cobbled
together without much planning for future needs. One could feel that not only does the project expect to gets its processing for nothing but isn't prepared to spend much to support the supporters.

If it were my PhD thesis that depended on the results I reckon I would be trying to keep my data sources happy!!

You are lucky. I have had 3 uploads sitting here for the last 4 days. I try them frequently day and nite but continue to temporarily fail upload. Can anyone suggest when to quit trying and just give up?

I have had 9 results which keep falling off also. There was a note about their computers dropping uploads, but they assured us there was a fix. When?

Stop hitting the Retry Now button. It's only adding to the problem.. Let BOINC upload the files when it can.

Go crunch other projects, go see a movie, spend time with your family, watch TV, but leave that button alone :)

Most of my backlog upoloaded today.. It will happen. You will get credit..

It's not BOINC's fault!
Make the most of BOINC and run some other projects while SETI recovers. :)

today i noticed that all jobs ( i had +/- 100 data units in queue ) vanished from BOINC transfer section, some of them had errors and most of them are still pending ...
I guess it happened the same with all of you ... right ?
now let's see how many time those data units will be accepted ...
