I seem to be getting a large pile of files that will not upload and I do not seem to have any current work. Looks like the servers are up. What's up?

We are experiencing heavy traffic on our data server. This is currently preventing some result uploads, but is getting better over time. More in Technical News.

For the past few days our upload/download server has been dropping connections, making for a frustrating experience for everybody involved. We also had our hands full trying to complete the first stage of the master science database merge.

Currently everybody who is requesting work can get it, thanks to splitting the uploads and downloads onto two separate servers. This isn't reflected yet in the server status page, and it may just be a temporary solution until we somehow obtain a machine capable of doing both. As well, there may be more server shuffling as Classic ramps down.
........

You will have, like all of us, to be patient untill the problems are resolved.

I have been unable to get new work units for over 24 hours now. So much for everybody requesting work getting it! Never had this problem with Classic - hope it gets fixed soon or I too may remove all my computers from the Seti project.

You could of course attach to another project (see the list?) .. but how is it going to help Seti that you are removing your computers from the project?

If almost everyone removed from the project then maybe someone could actually get some work to do ;-) Seriously, I have processed 16,525 units under classic and would love to continue if only I could get some work units (4 pending upload and still unable to download a new unit for over 24 hours!). As for other projects, maybe they just don't interest me as much as searching for ET (my CPU cycles, my choice).

After a little over 2 weeks of fighting with BOINC, I give up. It just isn't worth it. Both Seti@home and BOINC are getting deleted.

Seti@home was a great program, worked without a hitch, and was a useful way to use my computer's down time. Now, all it ever does is tell me that "BOINC is idle", won't upload or download data, no matter what settings I use or instructions I follow, etc.

I wonder how many others are dumping Seti@home because of the hassle with BOINC. It just isn't worth it.

I seem to be having the same problems, I can get work but have a backlog of 12 uploads. Who says that some uploads are getting through?? None of mine have all I get is retry. If this isn't sorted out in the next few days I will be hitting the big delete button. My CPU time and electricity can be used more effectivley elswhere. No ammused.

I would be happier than a pig in brown gooey stuff if I could get units to work on and just que the completed units until the servers are up. In the meantime, I'm stuck at contributing 11.3 years of CPU time and no forward movement in sight :-( Does anyone have a clue when the bleeping servers will be running right (the information on the status page does not match with my experience right now - STILL NOT ABLE TO DOWNLOAD NEW WORK UNITS [and I know I'm shouting])?

What a system. I'm seeing the same problem on every one of my five machines--this one is sitting with 13 uploads ready to go and can't download, either. The administrators seem out of touch with reality in the latest news report (I think they're seeing *attempted* uploads not *actual*) and, of course, there's no way to contact them directly. Do they even read these messages? - TS

No, they don't read these messages. If they were to read all these messages, they would be doing the same thing as us volunteers over here do, answering you: NOTHING.

So, what do you want the admins to do? Read the forums...?
Or fix the darn thing?

They cannot do both at the same time, so it's up to you folks to finalize the wants. Do know that the amount of admins may reach to the amount of 2, both working and living at Berkeley time (USA, -8 hours on UTC).

What everyone here forgets is that BOINC & Classic are using the same 100Mbit connection. Classic no longer gets money from the SETI Foundation, only BOINC gets money from a grand they asked for.

Once Classic closes down, in 7 days, the hardware used there, plus the rest of the 100Mbit connection, will be used for Seti/BOINC.

Just look at the influx of people and you tell how everyone can stay at the same 50Mbit, when Classic keeps using the other 50Mbit?

Ageless,
I'm sure the few people dedicated to this project are over-worked and under-appreciated, just like everyone I know. However, the Tech News states "Currently everybody who is requesting work can get it" so Ray and I would like someone to know that we are *not* getting any work (for at least 24 hours, as of right now) and no completed files have uploaded since Sunday. So if "the upload server is indeed catching up" is true, I'm feeling left out. I do not want to tell your tech team what they should be working on, nor what hours to keep. I just thought someone might like to know.

well if people are getting downloads and uploads then there should be a plan so that the rest of us can access the servers with equal time. i have been waiting for over 48 hours for a download or an upload. there should be a line so everyone can at least upload 1 or down load 1 and to put those people that are getting downloads and uploads to the back of the line so we all can share.

I currently have 37 completed work units to upload. Iam able to download work units.-- I am getting the following error messages re:uploads (1)"Can't resolve host name {setiboinic data.sslberkeley.edu}valid name,no data record of requested type" (2)URL http://setibonicdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cig/file_upload_handler::error-113 Is anyone else getting the same error? Does anyone know how to solve the problem? Thanks for any help!

I have the same problem as everyone else with most of my computers (particularly the fast ones). The biggest problem is the lack of downloads. The solution to wasted computing power for me is to add rosetta@home (another BOINC project) as a second project on each backed up computer and temporarily suspend seti@home until the uploads are completed. That way I'm still using my computer power in a meaningful way and not being frustrated by the technical issues of the seti@home conversion.

I'm thinking the same thing myself,i have 16 units waiting to upload and havent had a new unit for the last 2 days, maybe it's time to join a few more projects until SETI@Home and BOINC can get their serious problems worked out. BTW- i never had a problem with classic either :)

I have had this problem for much longer. I tried (following other threads)
1) updating manually (as in clicking on "update now" individually)
2) resetting the project (thus losing work completed)
3) detaching and re-attaching.
Nos 2 and 3 worked briefly, but the problems recurred. I have few problems in getting new work, but am unable to upload completed work like so many others.

My solution?
1. Click on "Don't allow new work" - I don't need more and more completed results piling up on me and my hard disk
2. switching temporarily to Rosetta or some other program needing computer time. So my computer's idle time gets used, and I am waiting around, hoping that the problem will be fixed.
