I've been using the seti@home screensaver since 1999 without any problems. I'm very disappointed with BOINC. Took 4 attempts to install and a number of attempts to attach to the seti@home project.

To make matters worse, when attempting to bring my display backup after the laptop screen has turned off, BOINC generates an error and subsequently won't run.

This is all very disappointing.

have you asked the experts over in the "questions/problems" area about your installation problems?...they are pretty good at getting people started with BOINC...here's the url in case you haven't found the help desk.

The laptop is probably using shared memory (video and cpu) that is somehow causing the workunit to crash when the video screen is activated.

I don't know if this will work but it's worth a try. Edit your General Preferences and set "Leave applications in memory while preempted?" to NO. Also set "Do work while computer is in use?" to NO.

If the errors continue post your problem in our Q&A section.
