I appear as a new account here despite having completed 755 units on the old Seti client. I had to remove the program and cancel (to be fair) as my CPU monitor was telling me that my CPU was overheating. This is a brand new PC and shouldn't have a problem. The question is, does the Boinc client use less "energy"? I notice that my CPU usage right now is 100%. I'm not too technical as far as PCs go so any help here would be appreciated.

My experience is Boinc does not heat more the CPU compared to S@H Classic.

If your PC has overheating problems, first of all check if there is no dust on the heatsink. Dust on that place can have a dramatic effect on the cooling performance of the CPU cooler.

Check also visually that the cooler fan is running. It can sometimes happen this fan is blocked for one reason or another.

As for your account. If you create an account with your original S@H Classic e-mail address, Boinc would normally take over your stats as of the 14th of May.

Greetings from Belgium.

If it's a brand new computer and is overheating when the CPU is tasked 100%, take it back!

Your system should be perfectly capable of running at 100% for extended durations. (assuming sane ambient temps) If it can not, it is defective and the manufacturer should remedy the situation.

it is likely a brand name like dell or compaq.. YUK.

they put no ventilation in those stupid things... on a new computer you should have a min of 4 case fans running.

your computer running seti will be at 100%, thats normal. use a program to monitor the heat and if it is above 50, then it is time to get some fans.
