Is there any way to turn off the dialogue box that pops up every time the BOINC program connects to the Internet for additional data or to report work processed? I leave my computer turned on 24x7 and find it very annoying to have to stop what I'm doing to close the dialogue box which says nothing, except that BOING is connecting to the Internet. There should be a preference setting that allows the user to turn that feature off (or on) as preferred. Thanks |

Which dialogue box? I haven't seen one yet. Do you mean the yellow balloon that comes up when you leave your mouse pointer resting over the B icon in the system tray? Or is it a physical window (box)? If the latter, try this: Start->Run, type services.msc {enter} scroll down the list to where you see Messenger. If its status is "Started" and "Automatic", doubleclick on it. Now Stop it first. Then, using the Start-up type dropdown menu, set it to Disabled. Press Apply, press OK. Did that kill any pop-up boxes? |

Try changing the Confirm before connecting to Internet? setting in your general preferences and see if that does anything. |

THere was a polite box for us dial uppers that asked "Boinc needs to connect to the network, may it do so now?". I assume that's what he's talking about. |

I haven't see it when I changed the previously mentioned setting and also changed it to run always and network always available. even if dial up. Have you upgraded to the latest boinc version 5.2.12? |

I could see the message you probably mean, Steve, with one of my boxes. Seemingly it sometimes thought to have lost the connection (being on a cable). I got rid of it when I changed in 'options' -> 'connections' to 'LAN connection' instead of 'automatically detect'. :-)= Greybeard All about BOINC: BOINC-Wiki (by Paul D. Buck) |
