I am getting the "daily quota exceeded" message on one of my computers. I have only downloaded 11 workunits on it today. My other computers have downloaded more than this one and still will download more. I haven't detached or reset the project either. Is anyone else seeing this? --- - 2004-07-27 02:26:02 - Cache low-water mark hit; requesting more work SETI@home - 2004-07-27 02:26:02 - Requesting 382040 seconds of work SETI@home - 2004-07-27 02:26:03 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi SETI@home - 2004-07-27 02:26:06 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded SETI@home - 2004-07-27 02:26:06 - Message from server: No work available (daily quota exceeded) SETI@home - 2004-07-27 02:26:06 - No work from project SETI@home - 2004-07-27 02:26:06 - Deferring communication with project for 1 hours, 0 minutes, and 0 seconds |

I don't know why it would hit you @ 11 Wus. |

I heard somewhere that SETI imposed a 50 WU/day limit to stop cheaters and allow WU's to be shared equally. I'm not sure of any details, whether it's 50 wu per day per machine, or per accoutn etc... Can you give us more details? How many WU's did you have cached? How many machines were downloading? What are your BOINC cache settings? etc etc... Cheers, Nic. ------------------------------------------------ Once you have ruled out the impossible, everything else, however improbable, is possible! A.C. Doyle. |

My 2 P4s both downloaded 50 yesterday. |

It probably means that BOINC is having some problem and keeps skipping through workunits without processing them. Check it's backlog and look for errors. The error message should help you to narrow down the source of the error so that you can fix it. I had this problem a while back and saw that the error messages said something about the slots and/or not being able to delete some files. Apparently it had something to do with using the CLI (I had it set as a service) and then using the GUI to check on it's progress. I don't remember exactly what happened, but because the CLI had files locked in one of the "slots," the GUI (nor Windows) could delete the files there and since it couldn't delete the files, it couldn't move new workunits to the slot for processing. Had to kill the service and delete the files. Since I had already downloaded my quota, I deleted something (I don't remember what exactly, I think the scheduler server) from the SETI/BOINC XML settings file so that I could get some new workunits to process for real. I imagine that resetting or detach/reattach would work as well. Since it would seem you don't have any workunits to lose I think that is probably the way to go when you get the exact source of the problem figured out. I am not sure if the 50 work units per host per day is measured using a 'fixed' 24 hour period (such as midnight to midnight, and if so, which time & time zone is used) or if it is measured using a sliding 24 hour window (as in *during the last 24 hours*). I'll have to look at the source code to verify this. If it is a 'sliding 24 hour window' is it possible that you *did* grab 50 work units without realizing it on that machine? ------------ KWSN-MajorKong KWSN Forum Admin (retired) http://www.kwsnforum.com BOINC Beta tester |

From boinc/db/boinc_db.h: char projects[LARGE_BLOB_SIZE]; // list of projects this host is attached to, // and the resource shares (XML) int nresults_today; // results sent since midnight From looking at the source code, it appears to use 'midnight' as the cutoff time. Now then, this could mean one of two things. Either 'midnight' PST/PDT (west coast of USA time zone, local time zone of Berkeley) or it could mean midnight GMT. However, having heard that Berkeley uses a lot of Solaris machines in their server lineup, and since Solaris is a type of UNIX, and since it is traditional to set the time zone on a UNIX (or UNIX-like machine) to GMT, my guess is that the cutoff time on the '50' limit is midnight GMT. Bill Barto, is it possible that you might have exceeded 50 work units downloaded on that host when measured from midnight GMT to midnight GMT? |

A couple of hours after I posted my problem I finally got more work units. Got 18 more which filled my cache which I have set for four days. When I started having the problem I had a total of 17 in my cache. When the project started giving out units again on Friday I had filled my cache up to 34 and had not received any more until yesterday so I had not downloaded any new units for almost three days before I downloaded those 11 and got the "over daily limit" message. I don't think I had grabbed a bunch of short processing units while I was away from the machine as I was still processing the ones I had downloaded on Friday when the problem started. Is it possible the counter for the 50 units wasn't being updated every 24 hours? I have noticed that my granted credits have not changed for a couple of days. |

I was trying to eliminate more mundane possibilities. Please file a bug report about this down in the 'Questions And Problems' area, if you have not already done so. Please include all the information you have (especially the information in your initial post and that you included in the post this post is quoteing from. Thank you. ------------ KWSN-MajorKong KWSN Forum Admin (retired) http://www.kwsnforum.com BOINC Beta tester |

also maybe possible, berkeley is setting down the value manuely. This could be done to narrow the demande of downloads. Probaly the had to restart db(-servers), this could also reseting timers/counters. We don't have a web cam there. In my eyes, the question is then more important, when (cheap)cpus are on the market, delivering a higher cpu power to complete 50 or more WU a day (or on a given period) ric > Is it possible the counter for the 50 units wasn't being updated every 24 > |
