Here's a new one.... I have seen this happen 3 times this afternoon. I'll have the BOINC window on the screen and after a minute or so it will just disappear. When I hover my cursor over the icon in the tray, it will also disappear. What's with this??? Maybe this is a question for what used to be called "service".

This looks like the BOINC application crashed. Check the stderr.txt file in the Program Files\BOINC folder for information on the crash.

This is just a WAG, if you are not familiar with that term it means, wild a** guess. All drivers up to date, BIOS flashed, memory checked and ok, no conflicts with other programs, unistall and reinstall Boinc......But remember it is just a WAG.......
Bah!!! I am in it for the money.

My box is new (rebuilt with all new parts) save for the CD-RW, zip drive and 4x video card.

Are you, by any chance, on a network?

And do you connect to the Internet through a proxy server? If this is the case, then you have hit a known problem. BOINC can successfully download WUs through the proxy server, but it can't return the results.

For now there is only a circumvention available - use the Proxomitron. See http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=603.

See also http://www.osiris-network.de/seti/ for detailed setup instructions.

Huh? I run BOINC through a proxy and have no problem downloading AND returning WUs through it. (Well, other than the general BOINC troubles, but those have nothing to do with proxies.)

The problem I heard about was with proxies that require authentication.

That is correct -- sorry for being unclear on that detail.

I did reinstall BOINC and that didn't solve the problem. THE problem just seemed to clear up all by itself. Go figure.... Thanks....
