I've had it. I'm de-installing all seti-clients (classic and boinc) I collected over the past +5 years since May 1999. 40850 results in Seti Classic, about 8000 points in Seti Boinc and about 2.5 years of delivering and maintaining Seti stats for the DPC (Dutch Power cows, team #25 world-wide).
Sorry folks, this (boinc) project isn't ready for production, and imho it won't be for another year or so, if it ever will be ...
I'm out of here. I'll continue to donate left-over cpu cycles to (project-wise) better managed, more mature, and maybe equally or even more usefull distributed computing projects (I'm experimenting with Find-a-Drug for the moment).
Wishing you all the luck and fun in finding ET ;-)

Strange, he waits untill the project is up (ish) again to quit?

That's like ordering pizza and when it arrives, throw it away.

I find this way of searching for ET (the way boinc is going now) more challanging. ;-)

oh dear - some people do like throwing their toys out of the pram! What do they think they gain by spouting forth on these boards. I wouldn't think anyone at SETI read these anyway do they?

I have now got into the routine of running classic SETI whenever BOINC has to stop to play catch up - as long as the PC is doing something?!?! But not going to quit!

What we're experiencing here is the process that the University of California is employing to clear the dead wood from a forest of otherwise healthy, vibrant trees.

Attn: ColdRain

As you have worked so hard to achieve a very high WU count, it would be a shame to let that credit and ranking position go to waste - would you let me carry on the good work in the name of "ColdRain" ?? If so, pls let me know by replying here.

regards,

T.

Could very well be ;-) I have no problem at all in "playing" the dead or tired wood being cut away to make place for the revolution of the eager young trees and branches in "Seti Wood". Reading some of the (completely disrespectfull but I don't care) replies here, there is quite some hope for Seti !! ... if you get my drift :-)

Ow, come on, cold rain. Hang in there, stick with it. You would want us Dutch to get more credits than you Belgians, would you?

Things will improve and we will all look back on these troubled, but interesting times and brag to newbies about it.

Lamer. Yawn. These insult posts are getting even more tiring than the complaint posts. Oh, and they're almost as constructive.

Ooops, mmm.. that sounded kind of like a flame too didn't it. Feel free to slap me around a bit.

Thought you said you were leaving! Got the stress out and decided to stay huh??!! Either leave or stay, but please no threats! They fail to ring true and you seem to be just one of many threatening to leave, then never do!
If you choose to stay do it with the understanding that your cycles are welcome and put to good use. No computer is up ALL THE TIME! Add upto 5 million people connecting to it and you are GONNA HAVE PROBLEMS! If you can do better Seti would love to see your smiling face at their doorin Berkeley. If you won't show up, either crunch or don't! These are COMPUTERS we are talking about, not real life! Computers crash and get fixed, real life doesn't crash it just ends!

Somebody's quick to be offended. I guess we all have our quirks :) Mine is disliking stupidity and ignorance, and yours is making yourself feel better by pretending to be better than others.

I was suggesting that the guy asking for CoolRain's persona was lame because he simply wanted the status of a high-credit account. E-penis. Lame.

OK "SETI Stud" - hmmm, starting a team by that name would kind of be like wanting an "E-penis" wouldn't it? 8)

Naw, I've got to admit it's fun when we can throw around a few insults in a good natured manner. ;) But lately everybody's been so much on edge it's kind of hard to tell sometimes when people are kidding or not. And some of them have definitely not been in fun.

Shadow, said he
Where can it be
this land of Eldorado?

Over the mountains of the moon
Down the valley of the shadow,
ride Boldly ride, the Shade replied,
If you seek for Eldorado.
