I've been trying to get info on my account, but have forgotten my "classic" password. Not a single human to be found. Am I supposed to wait for an alien life form to answer my questions?? Seti needs a "contact us" somewhere on their site, and if they have one... where the heck is it?? Getting very frustrated with this problem.
PS trying to set up two or three computers to go 24/7 if I can get on again.

are there any adjustments that can be made??
Thanks again,

My last Seti Classic work unit didn't finish up until today (12/26/2005). Unfortunately, you stopped taking Classic units the normal way last Thursday. To my untrained eye, this work unit had some interesting results. Please
tell me how to send it in some other way. Thanks, and keep up the good work!--Sincerely, Mike Hazzard.

Sorry Mike, they're done. For what it's worth, the work that was sent out for the last few weeks to Classic users was all duplicate work units, already processed by somebody else. If there's anything of interest there, it'll be picked up.

Dear MJ: Thanks for your help, and it's nice to meet a fellow cat lover! The work unit in question has been sitting on my downstairs computer for several months (I don't use that computer very often) and may not fall under the paramaters you mentioned. If you're at all interested, I can copy/paste the work unit results into a word doc and email them to you. My email address is Hazzard_Mike@hotmail.com. Happy New Year!--Mike. 12-31-2005.

Sorry but your Qs and As don't answer the question.(s)(2 now !)

1 How do I contact you?

2 It appears "Boinc" doesn't want to know me. I am "unable to attach to project" After several happy years contributing it now appears I'm going to have to drop out because the way through the "new contact system" is inscrutible to simple minded persons like myself. i would like to continue but can you tell me how?

1) How are you trying to contact SETI? They are extremely busy and cannot answer the thousands of emails they'd get (there are only five people, roughly) and would be quickly overwhelmed and not have enough time for their other work (their research). That is why this board was created, so users can help users. If you have a question, chances are someone knows the answer.

If you are having problems with your software communicating with the servers, it would help us best to see what your software is doing (or not doing as the case may be). To help us see this, please open BOINC Manager, click on the "Messages" tab and copy and paste the messages either here or in a new thread. Someone will be able to decipher those messages for you and tell you what's wrong.

2) In addition to what I said above, there should be no reason to drop out simply because you're having problems. Please show us the messages and someone should be able to help you.

Hello Mr. Hazzard-

I have been trying off and on for a couple weeks to log on to seti@home using the BOINC software. I downloaded the software using Windows XP and have tried at least a dozen times to associate, I think was the term, to seti@home. I get to the end of the process and it tells me that it is unable to complete.

I followed all the links I could find, saw several forum topics with people expressing similar frustrations. When I tried to add a comment of my own, however, I could not because I am not a registered user...despite my many attempts... BOINC seems to have created a special circle of hell for space nerds.

I found your email address posted in response to someone complaining that there is no way to connect to a human at BOINC or setiathome (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=22819). I have no idea what role you might play in this organization, but someone ought to the informed that people who would like to contribute are being turned away by badly designed, dysfunctional software.

> Hello there,

> A few years back i joint the SETI search just to check it out, i no longer have interest in it. But to my shock i found that when i enter my full personal name in Google i get a link to your site. And to a tracker site.

> Although the links do not work anymore, could you please remove my name from your databank so that i cannot be found anymore trough Google and linked to the SETI search? Below i have copy/pasted the search results as shown in Google.

Hello there,

I have the same problem as discussed above ...

After some time of not looking for aliens I want to rejoin the Seti Program.

But I really can't remember my Seti-Classic password.

I even tried to use your special form, including the information stored in the user_info.sah file but it did not work.

Is there anybody who can help me ???

greetings from germany,
Oliver Manthey

If you want to make your own website about Seti, then the answer is yes, you can make one.

Else I am not sure what you are asking for.

I was unable to get it to work as well. I was Buddhakahn, with 6 years in and a rating of 99.6%, and lost it all becuase my password was from an old netscape account I used to have when I first got my computer. Eventually I dropped out of Seti because I have my doubts about finding life on other planets when thay can't find a password on a server setting in the same room. We can only hope that if any life forms should contact them, they haven't lost their password as well.

Nah, this is the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, they wouldn't lose their passwords. In fact, they're probably beyond the "password" stage and use far more superior methods of securing whatever data they might want to encrypt. 8-)
