I'm sorry but the new graphics is just too horrific. Is there some way we can construct new ... hmmmm.... "skin" if you will for the SETI@Home project? May be a construction guide? A spec? Or is the crunching engine tied directly into the display? The current graphics is not even acceptable as a high school project. Also, someone evidently does not understand the concept of a screen saver. The default for the logo should never be in a fixed position on the screen. I really didn't want to be rude but I'm this close to turning my back on this project and switched back to something prettier. |

Not that I would use the screensaver, it's a resource hog, but I have to agree with you, i.e. it looks bad. I think someone was in love with Windows 98 and pieced it together from there. Account frozen... |

It's funny, I never looked at the Boinc graphics. But you guys are right, it is kinda cheesy. And what's with the floating? IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |

And what's with the floating? It doesn't look very scientific. The under 18 crowd might like it better than the Classic version, but they'd be too busy playing on their XBox to notice. me@rescam.org |

Link on this link, follow instructions, Already done, not much better. Found a listing in SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/setiboinc) but everything is pretty old (all the client files are over 1 year old). /sigh |

I've been on this since the beginning and one of the cool things about it is the screen saver. I know it's just frosting, but it also looks like it's actually doing something (which it is). This new one looks like a left over from "After Dark", and not even a good leftover. The orginal screensaver is MUCH better than this one. Jeff DeWitt |

Maybe Berkeley would agree to release the source code to the old screensaver, after it's no longer in use (15 Dec.), so http://sourceforge.net/projects/setiboinc or anyone could adapt it to BOINC? |

This is a really good idea, Prognatus! :-) This can be a very good option for those who prefer this screensaver. Personally I have the panel one as mine. I think that looks Ok for me, but it's a question about personal taste. "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

This is a really good idea, Prognatus! :-) Thanks! :) Maybe someone with good connections can forward the idea to the right people. This can be a very good option for those who prefer this screensaver. Personally I have the panel one as mine. I think that looks Ok for me, but it's a question about personal taste. Yes. I don't use the screensaver myself, since it affects the crunching too much, but I know many people likes it. Some has also suggested that the screensaver should be able to use the second processor on 2-processor systems, and this might be possible to implement if we got the source code released. :) |

Me neither, as my screen goes to black when inactive. But sometimes I like to open them and watch them. The new Rosetta screensaver is cool, I've only got one graphic Rosetta WU, so I suspended the other WU's and I actually had it open all the about 3 hours, it ran. I did something else while looking it, so I missed the past few minutes before it finished and uploaded. :-( But later, when they send out more graphic WU's, I'll have a look on it again. But later, when they send out more graphic WU's, I'll have a look on it again. I have to admit that I haven't seen any of the new ones. The last time I ran any SETI screensaver was years ago in Classic. My LCD screen doesn't need any screensaver to stay fit and when I'm not using my computer, I switch off the power to the screen. When people say the classic screensaver is nice to watch, I can understand that, but after a while you tend to get bored watching the same thing over and over and over... LOL |
