I'm getting this on a couple of PC's - they are out of work and not doing anything. Come on - we all don't run on 386's - up the quota please (or tell me how to raise it). M. |

Rob, I'm getting the same message and I haven't downloaded anywhere near 50 units. More like 18. My machine can do 6 a day and I want 8 days of cache. It downloaded 18 and started this msg. ?????? |

Are you just hording them or are you actually going to run them. |

I don't check my machines very often (10 machines) I let them run about a weeks worth of data and then I refresh. Been doing it for 4 years with SetiDriver. ========== That may not be a good idea with the Boinc Seti especially at first. They will probably be making frequent version changes for a while and if you get to far ahead with the cache you may have to just dump them out because with some version changes the older WU's will not be accepted. If that is the case then people that have run the work units already will never receive their credit or will have to wait a long time until the WU is reissued for somebody else to run it. With Seti Classic that was ok because you ran the WU & got 1 credit for it, but with BOINC you are dependent on other people getting the WU's done in a timely manner & turned in. If this don't happen then people are just going to be pissing and moaning that their not getting their credit and start dropping out in the end...IMO |

Unless you have to do a manual connection from eah machine to the internet, everything should be handled automatically by BOINC, even with a small cache. I have my cache set to .1 to .2 days, I gt one or 2 WU at a time, and if this project isn't connecting, then BOINC connects to one of the others that I am using. Alpha, Beta, S@H, and Predictor. jm7 jm7 |

Hi So you connect every 8 houres to internet??? I have .6 to 1 day but i get trouble with my son when i install Boinc on his machine. He said he didn´t want to upload every day, so when i want that he crunchs to my account i have to rise the cache up. It would be great when we can adjust the cache by every host. greetz Mike |

> It would be great when we can adjust the cache by every host. If you're not using all of your available "general preference" location categories yet (home, work & school), just create a seperate set of preferences for your son's computer using one of those available categories and tell it to use the preferences for connecting from that category. |

Hi In the different categories its not possible to change length of queue, this could only be made in generel preferences. And there is only one for all categories or miss i something? greetz Mike |

I have done no where near 50 units in a day (I only have 1 machine working on it right now), and I'm getting a quota exceeded message. This seems entirely bogus. I have tried several settings for the amount of work to be downloaded, and it makes no difference. if you ask me, there's a bug in the system, or it's including the other machines I have running classic in my daily quota. Incase you need it, my host ID is 14616. I am running 3.19 for windows. Please fix this, either document the project better, or start posting errors you're seeing because at this point, I don't see how the project went public. -Staze |

If you go into your account and bring up your computer and look at the results, you will see that you have been assigned 50 work units. You successfully completed 1 of them, and you had client errors on the other 49. Something is wrong on your system. This is the exact reason the quota was implemented. If there was no stopping point, a system could generate thousands of client errors in a days time - and remember that other people are dependent upon all three hosts that get the wu completing it successfully or their points are delayed. You need to figure out the problem and correct it. The quota limit is good for 1 day, so tomorrow you can get more work - but if the problem isn't fixed it will just error 50 more units first thing tomorrow. |

I see nothing in stderr.txt besides the quota issue... and in stdout, all I see is: 2004-06-24 13:08:31 [---] Fewer active results than CPUs; requesting more work 2004-06-24 13:08:31 [SETI@home] Requesting 86399 seconds of work 2004-06-24 13:08:31 [SETI@home] Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 2004-06-24 13:08:35 [SETI@home] Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded 2004-06-24 13:08:35 [SETI@home] Message from server: Not sending work - last RPC too recent: 64 sec That doesn't seem like something that is an issue with me. If the best I can get is "client error" it becomes a little hard to diagnose a problem. And the fact that I've done thousands of units with classic, and it seems that really all boinc is doing is running classic, then it seems even more illogical that the problem is anything else but a bug. If you could point me in the direction of some place to get some real locations to look for errors from the client, then cool... if not, then again, lack of documentation, and the project probably shouldn't be public. |

The best I can offer is to go back into your account and click on the link under the "result id" column. It will show you the full text of stderr for each work unit. For example, the first one in your list shows: ---------------- (core_client_version)3.19(/core_client_version) (message) - exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005) (/message) (active_task_state)1(/active_task_state) (signal)0(/signal) (stderr_txt) ***UNHANDLED EXCEPTION**** Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x00408F83 read attempt to address 0x0A301B48 1: 06/24/04 04:11:03 (/stderr_txt) ------------------ Now, this doesn't mean anything to me other than an access violation at the specified addresses on your computer - couldn't tell you what causes it or how to fix it. If you don't know what it means, some of the computer experts around here will likely jump in and tell you exactly what it means. |

In every instance where I ran into this problem, I had some sort of network error. On my dial-up systems, it was a TCP/IP timeout. On my T1's it was a faulty switch. Something to look into. |

I seriously doubt either. I have no network trouble from anything else... I'm on cable, so I doubt there's a timeout unless the data being sent back is huge and it wants it a lot faster than my 256kbit/sec connection can handle upstream. Just for s's and g's, I'll reinstall boinc... but somehow I doubt that'll fix it. the error is exactly that, an access violation... but of what? will post back when I know more... at this point though, I am starting to want to go back to classic until the next rev of boinc. or just switch back to fah... -Staze |
