Yeah, D. Duck has deteriorated heavily since Carl Barks; let him incarnate in a new, more original character, just as the old fierce D.D.! :-D

You know, it's a shame that americans don't see the new stories made by Don Rosa! Why isn't Disney comics sellable in its homeland? Strange.... Here in Norway, it's a huge business. Almost every family buys a copy every week for their children. And of course, many adults read it too. ;)

For those who wonders who Don Rosa is, he's the "new Carl Barks" - or at least the best since CB. Don Rosa works now for Egmont in Denmark, since 1991, while still living in the US. So, he actually don't see his own stories published.

Oh, Prognatus, I had given up hope about anybody around here being familiar with the fine science of Donaldism! I thought madam Hev knew about it, as she responded to my post about leaving D. Duck dead in the gutter, but she never answered back! :-(

No, this book by Jon Gisle is one of my favorite books, I actually bought it in the same little special comic store, where I also bought my Fat Freddy's Cat comics. In fact, I gave up on Donald Duck many years ago in the early 80', when the drawings and the stories were horrible! So thank you so much for mentioning Don Rosa, I'll check him out! And maybe give the good town of Duckburg and it's citizens a new chance?!

For a repetition of the styles in Donaldism, let me repeat here:

(In latin)

  • Prehistoric donaldism 1949-52, 1957-58 (donaldismus antiquus optimus maximus)
  • Early classic donaldism 1951-58 (donaldismus classicus vulgaris)
  • Late classic donaldism (romance) 1957-63, 1972- (donaldismus classicus romanticus)
  • Commercialism 1963- (donaldismus speculativus ugh'n'yuck)
  • Fethrism 1965-67 (donaldismus fethrismus superlativus optimus)
  • Trivialism 1965- (donaldismus modernis vulgaris)
  • Realism 1965-66, 1969- (donaldismus macabris diabolus)
  • Synthetic fethrism 1971- (donaldismus modernis fethrismussyntheticus)
  • Art nouveau 1973- (donaldismus artis novae epigonalis)

I laugh every time I read in that book! It's so funny, also how he described how sinister it suddenly became in his office at the university, when he wrote the chapter about Magica De Spell! [shudder!!!!]

But I'll definitely check out Don Rosa! :-D

I'd recommend Don Rosa in consentrated form first. There are a couple of books from The Hall of Fame series that you might like. Let me refrase that: I know you'll love them! :) There's no need to buy the weekly Anders And magazine (for non-danes: this is the title of Donald Duck comics in Denmark) just to look for Don Rosa-stories. They are there, but not in every issue... So better then to buy the books, where all stories are by Don Rosa. There's also a third volume in the makings... :o)

Jon Gisle's Donaldismen is a classic. I agree with you that it's very funny! Thanks for the list. :D

[EDIT]I found some danish links on Google too. Looks like you can get Hall of Fame in danish.[/EDIT]

"In space no one can hear you fart.
So let go and do not be afraid.
On earth, people may hear you.
But do not be afraid,
then you will have space
so no one can hear you again."

Does this mean you're not coming with me and Siran on the Pon'fart gathering on Vulcan IV this new years eve?
We need a couple of more guys to practice on the new Fartette. You can do 2nd base, if you want. :o)
