What's with BOINC? Can it not do an auto dial-up? Or am I missing something in preferences which I have not seem? Whenever BOINC needs to do anything, I have to manually dial up my ISP, then click the update menu selection by right clicking my project under the "Projects" tab. My PC is on virtually 24/7 because of the hot weather here in Southern California (my PC overheated one day about a week ago, but everything is fine with it). I get messages such as the following:
--- - 2004-07-24 04:01:12 - Can't resolve hostname setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu (valid name, no data record of requested type)
SETI@home - 2004-07-24 04:01:12 - Couldn't start upload for http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/file_upload_handler: error -113
SETI@home - 2004-07-24 04:01:12 - Backing off 1 minutes and 0 seconds on transfer of file 13ja04aa.14664.544.965896.190_0_0
I really liked the old SETI@Home "Classic" version.
Thanks for any input....

Without BOINC, if you just opened your browser and tried to select a webpage, would your system autodial??

If yes, then BOINC should be able to do the same thing. You just have to make sure the items in the General Preferences for your SETI/BOINC account allow it to do so. After changing your General Preferences, be sure to do an Update to get those settings to your computer.

If no, then the fault is in your dialer settings. Depending on your OS, the settings are out there somewhere. :) On WinME, it's under the ControlPanel->Settings->DialUpNetworking stuff (though I can't find it right now). There's some checkmark about dialing in when needed. (Sorry I'm not more helpful; I use a cablemodem so don't remember how that worked when I dialed in.)

This is a 2 part reply. 1)Yes, my browser does an auto dial. I also found out that BOINC is auto dialing but not all the time. and 2)Let's see if my banner works now....
