Boys and Girls,

A requested feature, long denied because I did not want to introduce JavaScript , has come to pass. I need feedback to see if I have what was requested; namely the FAQ being a list of questions with only those desired being expanded or linked to.

The SETI Faq has been converted to this new form which degrades in the absence of javascript to a complely open page.

Also included are open all and close all buttons. Add comments here. Oh, and there are a few other "fixes" and changes for the heck of it...

As part of an "unofficial" effort to document the SETI@Home Powered by BOINC, the following documents have been written to aid you in the use of SETI@Home Powered by BOINC:

Yes, thank you :)

I did this as a test case to see if it was a "good" thing. Then I have to do the BOINC FAQ which is not going to be as hard as all that in that the hard part is making and testing the functionality with multiple browsers (Safari - Mac, IE - Mac, IE - MS, and Netscape - PC; I forgot to test it in netscape mac, oops!).

I still have to finish up making all the changes to the link system (using the icons consitantly), removing the BOINC Beta test material, adding Predictor examples/content (now I have permission to link into their site); and, oh yes, fixing all of the broken links, making all the pages complient to W3C standard, and a bunch of other things.

Cool, I did/do not have those browsers to test it with, though Safari and IE on the PC do seem to make the best testers, a lot of what works on IE does not on Safari and vice versa.

That has been the most frustrating part of all this. I have made many cool things only to find that they do not work in IE at all. Since this is 75% to 99% of all the browsers used (epending on whose numbers you believe) it makes it a real pain in the posterior.

well, I will keep on keeping on...

Thanks guys...

Thanks,

As a reward for a job well done; you get; anothr job.

Because of my health, I do what I can when I can, which is why it is in such an "awful" state. I know, mostly I am working on cosmetics, usability, form fit and function.

In my spare time I add content .. :)

I just started a major CSS revision and will be making all of my pages fit the new normative styles and then hopefully I will be able to drop obsolete styles.

At the moment only the SETI@Home FAQ is in the new style ... you tested it once, I need to have it tested again because I did a massive code update by all of the pages are now in a consistent internal style again for the headers and footers and I have improved the functionality (if I am using Java script, I might as well use it). And I just think I screwed up the mail link on the bottom right if you disable JavaScript. Oops!

I will need testing again to make sure I did not break any of the browsers. I also think I got the links messed up in the FAQ and the round-robin does not work right again. But I am so confused now I don't know which end is up. sigh.

So, testing of the pages
1) Normalized styles, with name changes has propagated right
2) All icons around the edge work, should be TR: Site Index, TL: FAQ Index, BL: W3C validation (and it should validate with no errors), BR: Opens a mail
3) open all and close all work as do the individual links
4) Internal icons embedded in text should be in small form
5) Icons should not gain a blue clicked on border (I think I got most of them to work, IE sometimes does it until a page refresh)

Known issues (all pages):
1) Broken links, either to actual web sites (they turned off the pages), or internal as I am deleting BOINC Material. Link in and out of SETI pages should all work with those two exceptions
2) Inconsitent use of icons to style, form or type, as I find them I fix them.
3) content is aging and need new web site pictures and documentation (Web Owner's Manual)
4) Aside from needing the CSS fixes, I don't know of any existing problems in the BOINC owner's Manual, if I am wrong, let me know.
5) Glossary links not complete back to source sites yet.
6) No work units :) Just checking

It is on $30 of 107 so should be there in half an hour. If the post box is clicckable, you got the changed page.

Thanks for the assists!

Hello Paul,

I checked the SETI@Home FAQ with Avant Browser, which is based on IE. Look's good. I didn't encounter any problems.

Beautiful work.

Keep working, we keep crunching.

Thierry,

> Keep working, we keep crunching.

Thank you, all compliments gratefully recieved. I fixed the Opps on the mail to for the non-JavaScript, but have not posted it yet. I have also been working on the links and I am sub-100 already (latest report says 63). I also killed off the BOINC Web Site Owner's Manual. Since I cannot log onto that site, well, maybe it is dead.

If there is a developer out there who would still like it available, I can put it back. Send me a private e-mail and I won't even say who asked. :)

Hopefully the other folks that used other browsers will give me a thumbs up so I can do the BOINC FAQ this week. I would hate to have a show stopper show up after I have done too many pages.

Heck, I even got some new CDs to add to my music library ... what a day ... :)

Oh, one other question what do you think of adding a "border" and label for the two icons on the bottom? Or just leave well enough alone?

All is still working with Firefox in Linux also. And I also checked it with Konqueror and it works there too.

Thanks guys...

The good news is that I am getting there with the links, and I only have one more refinement on the expandit feature.

On the non-JavaScript browsers (or those that have it off for security) will no longer see the buttons and + and - signs. All I have to do is to propagate this through the SETI FAQ and start on the BOINC FAQ, but it is looking good. Of course that is only *MY* opinion.

I thank you for the sanity checks ...

So look for that ... with luck I can have it done (or partially done) by monday ...
