If you're like me and make those around you very nervous if you're weilding any sort of sharp instrument, here's a slightly safer way to carve your jack-o-lantern.

Now you started something, my kids are driving me crazy wanting to cut the

All true but I have to bribe them as it is now to get on the internet.
I lost half a night of surfing some time ago when someone posted a link
to a miniature golf game and then again when someone posted a link to the
drunk guy that you have to make walk home without falling on his face.
Besides, they'll still have 9 fingers if they lose one... :/

But how many will you have after you try and explain to the ex-wife why they are missing a finger..

This is the first pumpkin that I've carved, as Halloween isn't a big celebration here in Australia.

P.S. How do I make my pumpkin appear - I've tried everything!

Denis, everyone has been saving their pumpkins as jpegs and putting them up somewhere.

Halloween didn't used to be that big here (in England) either. We were the only family I knew that used to celebrate it when I was growing up. It's originally Irish/Scottish and Jack o lanterns used to be made from turnips.

Yes, I remember that here from my childhood, where my brother and his friends were getting turnips to carve from the local farmer. Then the tradition disappeared untill about 5 years ago, where it was imported from USA, as many other things such as Valentine's Day.

Es99, I hope you feel better! :-)

I did do a turnip one year when I left it too late to buy a pumpkin and they were all sold out.

My son's birthday is on Halloween (he'll be 5 this year) and even on the day he was born I still carved a pumpkin!

[Edit] God, that sounds like the preamble to a really long birth story - honest I'm not going to tell you all about the 24 hour labour..giggling midwife high on gas and air...no..[/Edit]

It's my Halloween Avatar, I'll trash it if it really bothers you.

No, it's ok. You can keep it till Halloween. People just keep wondering why I look at the computer screen from between my fingers.

The Cox guys are trying to fix a broken webserver, so the original link is temporarily hosed. To avert withdrawl symptoms, you can also carve here.
