My computer isn't the fastest and most of the work it sends me takes about 33000 seconds.

Not on Seti, I think Pirates has a smaller work unit. In fact Seti is going to be coming out with a larger work unit in the future. I do not know if they are going to let us choose the size ourselves or if it will be random.

I think Pirates is a dead issue. For small work units try Protein Predictor. My machine goes through some WU over there in around 1,200 sec. and sometimes even less. A big WU over there takes me about 2,400 sec. Your 9 hr. times for SETI doesn't sound to bad to me. Those NEW Seti Enhanced WU's may take up to 10 times longer to do so I wouldn't count on shortness anytime soon.

Using an optimized client will help shorten your time.
Or you could try primegrid. I think they have the shortest crunch times for windows.

More than likely it will just be a random draw when you request more work. Thats the way it is at all the other Projects, right now over at the Rosetta Project you may get WU's that vary in time from 30 minutes & slightly less up to 6-7 hours, at least for my PC's anyway ...

Misfit, I read that site and I must have missed something. How are they so fast if your computer uses that standard BOINC client? The fact that their side is in perl makes that much of a difference?

Perl has nothing to do with it, The work units are just smaller
and the numbers they crunch are not as extensive as other BOINC Projects.

The only optimized clients that I know of are for SETI.
The fact that their side is in perl makes that much of a difference?

The language is irrelevant. Their WUs are smaller, and judging by my CPU temp not as intensive as other projects.

I thought as much, but it seemed odd to me. Thank you both.
