I'm using a host that never run Boinc. Installed Boinc v5.2.2. Rebooted the PC.

Using the button "Attach to Project", filled in the correct URL, clicked on next, choose "use existing account", filled in my Email address and my account key. Email address and account key verified and tried it 3 different times.

Get always the message 'Account not found'.

BTW, I'm still using the account key to log in on the website and didn't create a password.

This doesn't look good people.

Any idea?

I had that before. I have BOINC 5.2.2. When that happened to me, I did not have the right account ID. I had typed it wrong and added a SPACE where there was not supposed to be one (at the very begining of the account id)...in the BOINC 5.2.2 Password=account ID (number sent to you when you joined SETI@home). Also check and double check that your e-mail is correct. If this does not help...any other help guys??

I did a copy and paste of the account key and checked the account key by counting the number of symbols: they matched the number of signs.

After that, I entered the account key manually, checking once again the number of symbols also, still the same problem.

Also copy and paste will not work on 5.2.2 for the password (on Windows). You will have to manually input the account ID character by character aka number/letter by number/letter (all letters are case sensitive. NO SPACES.). If this does not help I am sorry. Also if you had ever had an OLD BOINC installed on this computer, make sure there are not 2 BOINC folders (depending on whether or not you renamed any BOINC folders during install/update).

The PC I'm trying the new version of Boinc never had it installed. This is a fresh install of Boinc.

I tried exactly the same way as mentionned in my very first post for attaching the E@H.

No problem at all, right away attached to the project !!!

Hello people, I believe it is time to do something here.

I have been participating in this project for several years, have been helping people since more then 16 months by helping them out of the problems they had.

I have been posting over and over again, mainly in the "Help" section.

I'm afraid I slowly loose confident in this project !!!

If version 5.2.2 doesn't work like it should, please remove it from the download section. It has no sense to put something as "released" if it is not working like it should !!

Hello Jason,

Thanks for the reaction. I know it is early daytime in US.

I hope people at Berkeley read my comments during the day there.

Boinc/Seti is in a phase where a lot of people will join this project as Classic is going to shut down, other people will try as I did, adding a new host on this project while having participating like me for several months.

I believe this is the most badly time to intoduce something that should work while it is not.

Therefore, removing 5.2.2 from the download list is in my opinion the best thing to do NOW.

Or, resolving the problem there is ASAP.

They read your E-mails and comments if sent and posted to the revelent addresses and boards. They will come in here and other parts of the forums when they have time and can. Most issues involving Berkleys server etc can be solved by NOT coming in here...unfortunately. So we (all of us) tend to rely on people like me and many many others for help and advice. The right person WILL come along shortly :)

Very true. however I recently learned that when you join BOINC from Classic SETI your WU's get posted as to how many you completed. But your credits for the New Connect to BOINC will start at 0.00...when you do get there.

Therefore, removing 5.2.2 from the download list is in my opinion the best thing to do NOW.

You could do that...but like I said someone will be along to help soon. As long as you post all error messages you have and encounter then someone can help. I just offered the help I could based on my experience. But as you said "others are probably having same porblem..." Yes maybe...but just give them a little time to read and look at your meeages and errors and they WILL post. Just wiat for a little bit. they will Help...Come on guys. Do not let this one get away :-)

[Edit]
Same e-mail is send to Rom Walton as well.

If I don't have a reaction this evening, I will send the same e-mail to David Anderson.

DON"T PANIC.. ;-)

Your using your account key instead of the password from your Seti account.
Check your account and setup your password there (if not done allready)

Hello Rene Oskam,

I think I'm not panicing, what I do is reporting something that is in my mind a serious problem.

When you want to attach to the project with 5.2.2, there are 2 possibilities:

1. creating a new account,
2. use existing account.

I used the second one.

If you look in the above part of the screen that you have in front of you at that moment, you see following:

"Transition note: Account keys are used as passwords for accounts created before Boinc migrated to a username and password authentication scheme".

So, I used the account key that I'm using since more then 1 year here at Boinc/Seti !

That is exactly what I did by trying to attach to E@H as well. And for E@H it WASworking. So why is not not working here ???

If you've already had an account, 'use existing account' was the correct one, but you should use your password.
The transition note states that BEFORE the now used password, account keys were common.

I think that when you try again using the password it should work.. ;-)

Regarding E@H... ??? lucky..??

SETI and ALL other projects that have been running PRIOR to BOINC 5.2.x, must use the Password THE USERS specified it to be, according to their individual project. If you joined ANY project AFTER installing/updating to BOINC 5.2.x, you will have to enter the account key sent to your registered E-mail address for whatever account/project until you change your account key/password to your desired specifications.

Disagree.

1. I didn't create a password here neither at E@H, still using the 'old' account key for all the projects I'm attached to,
2. Using my account key for E@H worked.

If the way I did try to attach to E@H was working, it should work here also, E@H and S@H using the same structure.

Which means I have first to create with my existing account a password in order to be able to attach to the project using Boinc v5.2.2 ?

If so, why making it that complicate?

People have already more then questions and problems enough.
I think it is more then time that this project becomes userfriendly. And with the experience and the job I'm doing for all the years, I know what I'm talking about.

I'm using Boinc since 19 months and this is the first time I get into problem, which in my opinion, is not allowed for a project like this.

There are One of Two things that would work: Account Key (numbers and letters sent to your registered e-mail, for each project), or USER specified Password [EDIT] EASY WAY OUT [EDIT] (per project)

Point taken.. ;-)

When updating a pc this is no issue, but in this case (fresh install) you can't do without the password.
But you must agree, an account key is difficult to remember, email and pass can be your own (easy to remember) choice.
