I have upgraded to latest BOINC as BOINC requested,

I have followed all the guides,

I have a SETI account,

I have obtained a new key and used it,

I have used the SETI url,

I have re-installed BOINC several times,

SO WHY DOES THIS STUPID PROGRAM STILL NOT WORK?

I have trawled the help files and forums for several days and it seems that alot of people have the same problem.

I have used the old seti for a long time successfully and a previous BOINC aswell, however this one (4.45) does not work.

Can you please fix it or revert back to one that we all are able to use, or if it is something we people not in the know do not understand. Tell us in plain English and not in riddles or technical language.

Thank You.

Here is my laterst attempt. Am I doing something wrong? All of SETI is up and running but still nothing.

First start by clicking your account, view computers, and merge the 2 there seeing it is a result of you reinstalling BOINC. Second, can you tell me, by clicking in BOINC, your account, general preferences, and tell me what it says at Connect to network every...and tell me what it says the amont of days you connect.

Also make sure you deleted your OLD BOINC file unless you overwrote it...but check to make sure anyways...MAKE SURE TO DO THIS WHEN BOINC IS COMPLETELY CLOSED. If you have to delete the old folder then reboot your computer before turning BOINC back on. Reboot meaning shut it down completely and turn it back on (AKA Cold boot)

Well, crabby, it seems that you did all well, according to your description.

There's one point, however, to check: Firewall
Make sure that your firewall does block neither 'boinc.exe' nor 'boincmgr.exe'.

Did you used v4.19 or earlier before?

If yes, did you uninstalled it before installing 4.45?

If yes, try uninstallling 4.45, delete Boinc folder and install again, attach to the project again and lets hope this works.

@barbarossa AKA Greybeard

I don't think it is related to a Firewall problem otherwise I believe he shouldn't have messages coming up in Boinc Manager and he couldn't have contact with the scheduler.

did you wate the 10min 5 sec it mentions on the last line b4 trying to reinstall again? This is normal for Boinc. The first connection it download settings (how much of the resorces on your comp to use, what time of day to run, ect ) and SETI tells the client to wate 10 min b4 reconnection to the SETI server again. On the second connection, you will download the files and begin crunching.

You're right, Thierry, I overlooked

Checked on another PC that is not attached to a project.

The message

Insufficient work; requesting more

repeating itself after 1 hour comes up indeed. Which indicate for me you have a problem with one of the xml files.

Maybe detaching only would resolve the problem.

On the Projects tab of BOINC Manager there is a list of Tasks buttons on the left.

Do you currently see buttons named "Suspend" and/or "No new work"?
If you don't see the above buttons, but instead you see "Resume", click it and it will change to "Suspend".
Or if you see "Allow new work", click it and it will become "No new work".

Jason's question regarding your "Connect to network about every" setting in your Primary (default) general preferences is also important. Make sure it is a non zero value. If it was 0 and you just changed it, force an update by clicking the "Update" button in the tasks list of the Projects tab.

Analysis of the messages that you posted indicates that BOINC is not requesting any work and you need to determine why it is not.

Completely uninstalled, deleted everything BOINC from my computer.

Restarted computer.

Downloaded 4.45 again.

Reinstalled 4.45 and setup as per instructions.

Checked SETI@home was up and running.

Started 4.45 and configured.

Awaited download, and started crunching.

Once again thanks for the help.

Welcome back crabby.

The uninstall, deleting and start over again is sometimes the easiest way.

One thing you might need to do is merge your hosts as you have now 2 different hosts that looks to be the same.
