Hi, I recently installed boinc on two computers and it started doing some work... but then it stopped, and it just gives messages like SETI@home - 2004-07-22 10:35:15 - Sending request to scheduler: http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi SETI@home - 2004-07-22 10:36:25 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed SETI@home - 2004-07-22 10:36:25 - No schedulers responded Also... I'm a bit confused with my account settings :P I have one computer which is basically a dedicated server... and this one which really isn't The "dedicated" one basically stays on all the time, and the internet line is also on all the time Here are my settings for BOINC, under the general column... don't know if this is good? Do work while computer is running on batteries? (matters only for portable computers) yes Do work while computer is in use? yes Do work only between the hours of (no restriction) Confirm before connecting to Internet? (matters only if you use a modem) no Disconnect when done? (matters only if you use a modem) no Keep enough work on disk to last between 0.075 and 0.75 days On multiprocessors, use at most 2 processors Write to disk at most every 10 seconds Limits on disk space used by BOINC: Use no more than 10 GB Leave at least 1 GB Use no more than 25% of total space Limits on network bandwidth used by BOINC: Maximum download rate: 256 KB/s Maximum upload rate: 32 KB/s Also, I can't seem to get any credit whatsoever... Please help a newbie out, thanks [Edit] Maybe I should go back to "Keep enough work on disk to last between 0.1 and 1 days? |

Thanks for the quick reply, I noticed the messages there, but it doesn't stay anything about not shipping out WU :P |

Right now there does not seem to be any WU's being sent out to crunch but their working on it. As for the cache settings I would recommend at least between 3 and 5 days. You want to keep enough in your cache to wait out a two day server outage while continueing to crunch. . <A> |

Well, here's a new one. SETI@home - 2004-07-22 20:11:11 - Message from server: To participate in this project, you must use major version 4 of the BOINC core client. Your core client is major version 3. Anyone want to take a stab at WTF this is all about?? (fortunately, I haven't gotten a repeat of this message) |

I download v3.20 and then rebooted the PC, and all seems fine now..... |

> It seems now I don't get any credits? is there something you must do before > you get them or? Yes, you must complete WUs and return them. Then two other hosts must also complete them, and your results need to match theirs. Then you will get credit. <a> [/url] |

a little bit of a problem again... I'm looking at the "report deadline" and it reads "2004-08-06" which is in.. 13 days?! I have three things under work that say in the status "Ready to report" also I have the setting in General Preferences Keep enough work on disk to last between 0.1 and 0.5 days ^ That's sufficent right? or should it be the default of 0.1 and 1 day? |

Yes, that sounds right. > I have three things under work that say in the status "Ready to report" These will be picked up automatically the next time you ask for more work, or around 24 hours before the deadline. Whichever comes first. Or, you can go to the projects tab, right click on the project and select "update". > also I have the setting in General Preferences > Keep enough work on disk to last between 0.1 and 0.5 days > > ^ That's sufficent right? or should it be the default of 0.1 and 1 day? It's as well that this project is not serious science - the skill level of those running the software is mediocre and that is being flattering. More and more of us are becoming frustrated by dealing with such amateurs. We have supported this experiment and all we get now is utter confusion. Surely the software should have been tested prior to asking the public to use it. University graduates ain't what they used to be..... |
