Ran SETI for two years, but this new system is not working at all. As no one answered my question from last month, and I'm tired of the program hijacking my system every five minutes to ask me to click to buttons only to freeze, I've sadly decided to delete everything. Is there a simpler way to do so than hunting through every folder in my system? I'm using Tiger 4.2. If they figure out how to make this work with Macs, I'll come back. Oddly, it worked perfectly with my old OSX basic Mac. Until then, good luck! It is (or was) a fun project.

Thanks,

Which application is asking you to sign on? If you still have Classic SETI installed, you need to disable/delete it, and you cannot run Classic SETI and BOINC at the same time.

When I try to view your computer(s), nothing is listed. This tells me you are probably still trying to run SETI Classic and have not properly installed and activated BOINC.

First, what kind of computer do you have?
Second, what version of BOINC did you download - BOINC Manager, BOINC MenuBAR or the CLI version?

...and, if you don't want to wait around for us to respond after answering these, I'd suggest you do a search in Finder for SETI and BOINC and throw everything you find into the trash, then empty the trash. Next, I'd suggest going here and downloading either the optimized BOINC Manager or the BOINC MenuBAR (labeled "BOINC Manager superbench 2.0 M" or
"BOINC Menubar superbench 1.7 M"

If you use SAFARI for your browser, it should automatically un-zip the files and leave you with a folder. Drop this folder into your Applications Folder, open it, and double-click the application to launch it. Nothing much will happen, as you aren't subscribed yet. Assuming you have received an email brom BOINC with a URL and your account ID, go to the BOINC Manager or Menubar menu, pull it down, and click on the ADD button. Paste in the URL and user account appropriately and then open the log. You should see a whole bunch of gibberish, and somewhere in it should be something that looks like

This means you are now running SETI BOINC. Close all the windows and let it run. BTW, the screensaver may or may not work without additional effort; personally, I don't want a screensaver - it wears out the monitor and wastes CPU cycles that could be contributing to science. I just adjust my Display Preferences to go to black screen after 5 minutes.

Also, while you are at it, download the optimized SETI client by Alex and Rick that is located farther down the page. They have a link to instructions for installation. The optimized SETI Client runs a little better than twice as fast as the "standard" one.

And, if you try this on Wednesday afternoons, you probably can't connect to SETI because that's when they do maintenance - don't get upset, just wait until Thursday...

If you have more questions, ask.

Well, as I said, I have a Mac and I'm using Tiger 4.2. The BOINC I had was the one listed on the download page as 'Recommended'. As it either locked up or did a bunch of other bad things to my computer (as it appears to have done to many many others based on the board complaints) I took it out and turned the old SETI back on. But since then it's still acting wonky, and I am tired of dealing with it. It's interfering with my work.

This new BOINC system is a mess on a Mac. It does not run happily and quietly in the background as the last one did for the past two years. I'm not interested in downloading yet another version of the program. I just want to completely delete and uninstall everything.
