Just got everything back online after a MAJOR software failure...at least I think thats what it was. I am running BOINC 5.2.2 Have not finished a WU yet but as of the moment NO problems. P.S. Does anyone know why it takes longer to process a WU on the new BOINC as opposed to 4.45? It seems my WU's are taking longer. And is installing the optimzed client the same way for the 5.2.2 version as it is for the 4.45 version? Let me know :)

[edit]well well..maybe I will ask in another thread...(in response to the little fight going on)[/edit]

I upgraded to 5, and the work units for the projects that don't support version 5 finished fine, uploaded fine, but didn't get any more work. Perfect.

I suggest nobody else respond, lest you feed the troll.

Odd, I seem to remember using the word "suggest."

Let's see......Hmmm.....How many of the posters here who have had NO trouble with V5 upgraded from a boinc version prior to 4.20? I'd guess that there were none, and that's because they upgraded from a version 4.20 or higher.

When upgrading from 4.19 and earlier, You MUST uninstall 4.19(and earlier) before installing any version 4.20 and higher (including v5). If you don't you'll trash your wus. AZwoody is the only one who experienced a problem, and he admits he upgraded from 4.19. I would have thought he'd been here long enough to know that.

Dr. Anderson doesn't have to respond to anyone, anywhere, he has people for that. If you puter has problems, do you really expect to get to talk to Bill Gates?

I'll have to say that after upgrading to 5.02 over the weekend I'm a bit disappointed.
While it has been crunching away happily, the price of gas is still too high, the washing machine still backs up into the sink when it drains, and as far as I can tell, Natalie is still missing. Perhaps I set my expectations too high?

2 WU's finished for me overnight. 1 Rosetta and 1 Seti. Both uploaded just fine. Something different about this version. I had it set to "No New Work", and it would not report the WU's. However, I set it back to "Allow New Work", and uploaded just fine.

So, AZwoody, Rosetta and Seti work. There's 2 projects working with no problems.

Something I did, was go to the websites of all the projects that I crunch for and see if they are compatible with Version 5.x.x. And all the projects I run are. So theres a suggestion. I don't know why you got to sit and demand answers. Do something about it yourself, and use that computer of yours to find your answers.

@ Scarecrow;
I'm with ya there. Gas prices suck, now they are raising Natural Gas prices, so now its gonna cost more to heat my house, Electricity is going up too, my minivan is still having problems after being in the shop for 2 months. WHEN WILL IT END!!! hehehehe

My apartment's heat is electric. As such, I don't have to pay high heating costs and I can just run some BOINC computers to keep things nice and toasty! They're like space heaters that crunch radio telescope data!

We use Niagra Mohawk/National Grid. We had almost $60.00 bill for August and a less tan $50.00 for September. I think we are saving more. not much but a little these days is a lot. Gas here went down today from 2.80 to 2.77. Hmmm...P.S. Still running smooth here on 5.2.2 SETI

Here in florida it is hot, and electric bills are around $240 a month. I have a set of aquariums that use lots of electricity. I am now at about 1 week crunching everyday so I would guess my bill is going to run much higher I'm affraid.

Jeremy, he would rather whine and complain and put down the dev team. That's just azwoody. He has all the answers, but won't lift a finger [or his ass] and help do something about it. At least that's the impression I get, that he's Mr. Know It All, when I read his whines.... >:-) (-:<

Just can not stay away to long, but I see it is like a day time soap, you can miss ten years and will still be brought back up to date in ten minutes of surfing......

This is the kinder gentler version 1.22b, I am sure another bug fix will be needed in the future.....Now shut you,,, whoa whoa, breath breath, think good nice nice thoughts, spring flowers and showers and lovely maids milking and geese a goosing, damn these are good figgen pills heh

I do all the time. Not only does he owe me the money he borrowed but I added $25 for his bounced check fee.

as far as i can tell, only LHC@home, Sztaki Desktop Grid, and XtremLab will not work on version 5 of BOINC yet. If there are any other Projects, let us know.

Running 5.2.2 on 6 machines now, no real problems, but an annoyance with 5.x (entered into Boinczilla - #386): With 2 dual P3 machines (on 5.1.8) and 1 Pentium-D (on 5.2.2) I attached to Rosetta, and while the attachment went fine, the transfers tab loaded up with files to download, and then they just sat there. It took exiting from Boinc CC and restarting it before the downloads would start. I also tried a P4 (non-HT) and everything worked as expected.

I wanted to attach to another project, but SZTAKI won't do 5.x. I created an account anyway, and I'm just waiting 'till they support 5.x. I tried creating an account at PrimeGrid, but they just put me on a waiting list.

Anybody have a similar experience attaching a dual/HT machine to a project?

I've seen the transfers tab, a couple times, fill up with downloads. I just click the first on the list and click "Retry...." and they all download. No problem with me. >:-) (-:<

I have several projects that will not send files with 5.2.2, but will with 4.72 in my work environment. When I take the laptop home all files upload fine. Everything is still working fine on a 2nd machine in the same work network.
