We don't treat all Boinc users like that - only those that complain incessantly over something they voluntarily decide to do.

It can take several days to a couple weeks for you to get points - just wait.

I have been doing this for almost 5 years and have more than 60,000 wu's compleated. (all on my own machines)

I'm also leaving the project, because it appears they don't need me.

I wish all the cheerleaders luck.

Bye :) Thanks for taking stress off of the overburdened servers and freeing up more work units for the rest of us. That's the true Seti spirit! I'll mail you one of our cheerleader t-shirts as a thank you!

Well, we've determined two things then:

1) You're leaving Boinc
2) You're psychic

Perhaps with all the extra time you have after leaving Boinc you can become a professional phone psychic and make lots of money. Maybe you could then contribute it to the Seti@home project and actually help the cause since all you could previously give was whining and computers that couldn't get work units.

You call Joes 2 post excessive whining? It sounds like you need to get a life and quit harassing other members.

No, I never called it excessive whining, although having 1 post up until that point, and it only being pouting/whining, does give him a track record of 100%.

Starting a post where you threaten to leave a *volunteer* project because you don't like it accomplishes nothing, and makes you look like an attention whore and an ignorant clod.

Sorry I offended you, Tech, but if I need to "get a life and quit harassing other members" because of what they post, maybe you should "get a life and quite harassing other members" because of what *they* (I) post?

Most people here have been crunching SETI for years and have got in the routine of thats the thing to do.
Every one has felt the strain of not getting WU's, some grin and bear it, while others come to the forum and let off steam.
Also everyone has opinions and can make up there own mind about the somewhat stressing changes lately.
I just don't see the need in slamming the door behind someone just because they choose to leave, most will be back once the problems are remedied as long as there not insulted because they decide not to ride-out the storm.

Just my opinion.

And I respect your opinion.

But my opinion is now one of zero tolerance. If someone really cares about Seti, they'll stick with the program over bumps and bugs, and not bail just because they can't get work units 100% of the time. Which, of course, isn't really a bug because the Seti people have *openly said many times* that there will *not* be enough work units to go around.

However, these people, despite this being a volunary project and that previous bit of information openly stated in the Seti/Boinc information, get mad and think that things should be different just because they want it to be. That, or they're mad that no work units = no credits = no e-penis.

Saying "I don't like Seti/Boinc because of _____" is fine. But that's not what these people are doing - they're acting childish. They're throwing a 2nd grade temper tantrum like a kid holding his breath because he can't have seconds on desert - or more specifically, they'll take their computers away if things don't change. People will ultimatums like that can effectively bite me.

Easy there, Matt. :)

Do as I do and take it easy. The new people blaming BOINC as the source of all evil - even when it isn't the BOINC core client, nor the Seti_3.08 client, but actually the server side that's causing the problems - well, let them. If they feel better after letting off some steam, let them.

I already told the team I am crunching for that I will leave Seti2 crunching at the back-burner, while I try to help out the various other alpha and beta tests sprouting up using BOINC. If that means I have 3 crunchers deferring for between one hour and seven days to their respected schedulers, then so be it.

What you can do, is point to people to open Help, About and let them post back what BOINC version they have. Let them quote the text in the blue bar at the top. ;)

What you can do is point out to people it isn't the BOINC core client, it isn't the SAH2 cruncher they use, that is causing the problem. It's just server sided.

What you can do is to tell them to go back to SAH Classic, that they can come back when that closes. For when SAH Classic closes down, this SAH2 we're running has come to terms with its problems, has got a sturdy server, has got work-units for all.

Until that time, let them blow off steam, shout out things about BOINC that aren't true. Just laugh about it, but don't answer. Just shrug. It's better for your health. While the "whiners" will come back eventually anyway. ;)

You're a much better person than I am, Jord, for being able to smile in the face of such ignorance, immaturity, and stupidity. I see these people and want to put my boot through their skull.

But I will stop because of Jord.

Nice to see that this is such a mature a fostering forum.

If the flamers read my post again, (assuming they can sound out the big words), they will note that I said "I think it may be time to turn off my computers" which is not at all the same as saying I am quitting the project. Of course if some people were not here to spam and flame, the topic would not be bumped ad nauseam.

As for my other two replies in this topic, they speak for themselves.

To answer the statement;..."It looks like he left & took his name with him ... :/"... nope...that was the forums frelling up when I was trying to add a Sig. Updating my profile cleared my information instead of updating it which turned out to be a good bug in the end.
