South African super-telescope reveals distant galaxies and black holes

A montage of the MeerKat radio telescope’s First Light image with four zoomed-in
insets – the two panels to the right show distant galaxies with massive black holes
at their centres; at lower left is a galaxy approximately 200m light years away
where hydrogen gas is being used up to form stars in large numbers.

I'm sorry Lynn, the pic worked fine the 1st time.

Beautiful colours on our 9th planet.

I recently read an article about the 5 moons Pluto harbours. Hydra, Kerberos, Styx, Nix and Charon.

Most impressive.

2018 July 29 - Journey to the Center of the Galaxy
The featured video is actually a digital zoom into the Milky Way's center which starts by utilizing visible light images from the Digitized Sky Survey. As the movie proceeds, the light shown shifts to dust-penetrating infrared and highlights gas clouds that were recently discovered in 2013 to be falling toward central black hole.

Oh my goodness, I hadn't noticed that! Thanks for pointing it out :-)
Oooo, I didn't spot that amusing tidbit in the original space.com article =:o

While we hang to our 20th commemorative tees next year, I suggest we send a Captain Obvious tee-shirt to this deserving journalist.
