I believe NASA calls it supernova remnant W 49B and it may contain a black hole since it is not a radio pulsar or a X-ray pulsar.

A new photo by a telescope in Chile has captured an amazing view of wispy interstellar clouds creating what appears to be a "cosmic lobster" in a distant star nursery, scientists say.

The new image, released today (Feb. 20) by the European Southern Observatory, reveals the nebula NGC 6357 about 8,000 light years from Earth in the constellation Scorpius (the Scorpion). Massive, hot, blue stars dot the wisps of gas and dust in the stellar nursery.

The universe is eerie enough without giving us an apparition of a 1980s video game alien attacker. This oddball-looking object is really a mirage created by the gravitational field of a foreground cluster of galaxies warping space and distorting the background images of more distant galaxies.

The glowing green planetary nebula IC 1295 surrounding a dim and dying star. It is located about 3300 light-years away in the constellation of Scutum (The Shield).

NASA released a new composite image of the Comet C/2012 S1 (ISON) which was taken on April 30 by the Hubble Space Telescope as it streaked toward a close encounter with the Earth.

Why is this so special? Comet Ison won't actually be that near the Earth but when it nears the sun this comet could actually outshine the moon. Its best display should on November 28 this year, Thanksgiving Day. It could also be spectacular in the northern hemisphere on its return trip to the outer reaches of the Solar System.

Hubble telescope spots 'cosmic caterpillar' that's six TRILLION miles long, formed by harsh winds from some of our hottest stars

Bruce Gary of Hereford, Ariz., obtained this a true color image of Comet ISON on Oct. 22, showing a greenish coma and reddish tail. The coma is now greener than the tail, which is also a result of the recent emission of gas to the coma.

Pic Images from the Hubble space telescope suggest for the first time how our galaxy, the Milky Way, developed. And its scientists have put together a photo of how the night sky could have looked 11 billion years ago if humans and Earth had been around.

A false color image of Cassiopeia A, composited of data from three sources. Red is infrared data from the Spitzer Space Telescope, orange is visible data from the Hubble Space Telescope, and blue and green are data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The cyan dot just off-center is the remnant of the star's core
