The image is roughly 650 light-years across and contains some rambunctious stars, from one of the fastest rotating stars to the speediest and most massive runaway star.

Hubble Peeks Inside a Stellar Cloud

Bright stars, shining through what looks like a haze in the night sky, are part of a young stellar grouping in one of the largest known star formation regions of the Large Magellanic Cloud, a dwarf satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. The image was captured by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Planetary Camera 2.

The stellar grouping, known to stargazers as NGC 2040 or LH 88, is a loose star cluster whose stars have a common origin and are drifting together through space. There are three different types of stellar associations defined by their stellar properties. NGC 2040 is an OB association, a grouping that usually contains 10–100 stars of type O and B--these are high-mass stars that have short but brilliant lives. It is thought that most of the stars in the Milky Way were born in
OB associations.

A version of this image was entered into the Hubble’s Hidden Treasures Image Processing Competition by contestant Eedresha Sturdivant. Hidden Treasures is an initiative to invite astronomy enthusiasts to search the Hubble archive for stunning images that have never been seen by the general public.

The Milky Way's 100 Billion Planets

This artist's illustration gives an impression of how common planets are around the stars in the Milky Way. The planets, their orbits and their host...

The Universe, is amazing!

You sure have to wonder what is what appears to be a UFO physical body pictured just above the corona.

http://www.theblaze.com/stories/proof-of-an-alien-cover-up-youtube-users-wild-theory-that-nasa-is-trying-to-stop-us-from-looking-at-the-sun/

Last week, UFO enthusiasts claimed they had — again — spotted an alien spacecraft flying near the sun. As these sightings are frequently written off with “simple explanations,” one rather interesting enthusiast is now accusing NASA of a cover up
NASA posted a notice on the web page that hosts the latest images from SOHO saying no data would be available as it was undergoing “Emergency Sun Reacquisition.”

I still wonder how coordinated the folks in our government and at NASA would have to be to cover something up as consistently as alien spacecraft. Our government can't even get their act together long enough to fix our damned economy, let alone stop fighting over such trivial issues such as gay marriage or federal spending.

These UFO conspiracy theorists... I'm sorry, "enthusiasts" sure have far too much time on their hands, and have a little bit too much crazy in them to be trusted.

Our Milky Way galaxy is doomed. Scientists using the Hubble telescope have determined it will be destroyed -- 4 billion years from now, when it collides with the Andromeda galaxy. This artist's conception shows how the sky might look as the galaxies are drawn together by each other's gravity. (Z. Levay, R. van der Marel, and A. Mellinger/ESA/NASA)

Todays Picture of the Day :)
I am awed when i see closeups of the Sun. It looks like a smooth yellow ball from here but in reality, it is a raging inferno that looks incredible.
Venus just adds to it too...

I has a MiniCity :)

Astronomers find 'starburst' site is a whopping 12.6 billion light-years away.

Go Hubble!

I agree, but think in the near future Hubble, will retire.
