Message 194334 - Posted: 25 Nov 2005, 16:45:51 UTC - in response to Message 194322.

My problem is that my Classic account somehow had no email address recorded. So when I try to use the transfer page, I get an error saying Unable to handle request: Must supply an email address. That's whichever section of the account transfer page I fill in.

Over-zealous field validation?

I suppose it doesn't matter. I can just start over with the BOINC account. Annoying, though.

How can a account have no email adress? But you have the password?

Message 194701 - Posted: 25 Nov 2005, 22:21:49 UTC

I followed all the instructions to transfer from my classic account to BOINC, but I have ended up with a BOINC account not connected to any project. I then discovered that SETI did not recognise my email address - because it thought I was still on an old one. I changed from that a year ago, told SETI and have been happily processing data ever since.

Never mind getting my units across, I just want to be doing some useful work, but I can't figure out how to (re)connect.

That's not to wonder at, if you know that the accounts have been transferred last time in March. (You see it in 'your account', where it says 'as of 15 March 2005').
There will be a final transfer after shutdown of Classic.

You mean how to attach BOINC to Seti?
Open menu 'projects', then 'attach to new project' and follow the prompts.

The account you are posting with show 147 Classic WUs, but no BOINC credits. So you manage to migrate it from Classic. What do you now want to connect to what? This account to SETI@home or a different account we couldn't see here? Or something else? I believe I am not sure how I can help you. :)

Yes, I want to connect BOINC to Seti. I already tried what you suggest, but when I put in my user name and password (correctly) and hit 'Next' it returns me to the same screen. I haven't filled in the 'server' field, because I have no idea what to put there. That's the kind of 'prompt' I can do without.

Exit boinc manager, file-exit
go to seti website, go to "your account", Log in, create a password.
don't log out
open boinc
select "projects", then "Attach to projects"
then enter URL
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
then select "use existing account"
enter email and NEWLY created password

does this help?

I already had a password, but I tried changing it as you suggest. After entering the URL I get to a screen that asks for a server, a user name (not an email address) and a password under either 'HTTP proxy' or 'SOCKS proxy'. There is nowhere to select "use existing account"

To simplify this thread: Am I correct in assuming that the Seti classic credits may not have been transferred immediately, and that they will be transferred at some future date, perhaps later in December? And therefore we shouldn't worry about losing our credits (I have processed 17,194 DU over 156,182 hours). I started BOINC today and have no credits showing even though I used the "Transfer Option", choice #1 on the "Transfer SETI@home Classic account" screen.

Thanks,
Carl.

From Your Account:
SETI@home classic workunits
as of 15 March 2005 16,291
SETI@home classic CPU time
as of 15 March 2005 151,502 hours

It's a database intensive process to bring over the stats. The databases are not dynamically connected. Some time after the Classic side closes, the stats will again be brought over to the BOINC side of the project, and those numbers updated. NO CREDIT HAS BEEN OR WILL BE LOST.

This page uses the user_info.sah file from your Classic SETI folder to extract your Classic password. With that information, your BOINC account key and your current email address, you can go to this page and link the Classic to the BOINC. Use the third section on this form.

Message 196066 - Posted: 26 Nov 2005, 23:37:36 UTC - in response to Message 192148.

I do not see any instructions on how to transfer my account from classic to the new stuff. I currently have over 36,470 classic data units. It looks to me that as of 12/15/05 I will no longer be running seti because I can not get transfered.

Why isn't there some straight forward way to get this done?

I did what every I was ask the first time Boinc was offered. It says something about me having an account but it is not getting any credits.

My email address is mssinc@michiesoftware.com if someone wants to point me in the correct direction.

I see from others sigs that some have had their classic totals added in. I'm showing < 42 units (whatever those are), when my classic had 63+ cobblestones (whatever those are). Why are some showing all their work from way back and others aren't?

I have tried using the third section of the form, and keep getting the message that I need to enter an e-mail address, even though all the entries are completed. Thanks anyway...

You have to differentiate things.

Seti BOINC website does show your stats as of March 2005 as it has been updated in March only. It will update after final shutdown of Classic.

Seti Classic of course does show your complete Classic stats.

The pictures you see in the sigs are from 3rd party sites. Those which show the Classic stats are retrieving it from Seti Classic website.

BTW: 1 credit = 1 cobblestone (in BOINC)
1 WU = 1 WU (in Classic)

How should Seti search your account without an e mail addy?

The middle and bottom sections only complete the top one. In the top section you have to enter youer e mail addy as it was registered at Seti Classic in March 2005.

That's a very confusing form, which is responsible for a lot of difficulty and repeat questions from new users. The form should be setup so that the Classic email field is repeated in both of the bottom sections as well. That way, all of the required information is asked in the same place without skipping around.
