Ok I followed all the steps as far as finding the user_info.sah but am not sure how Im supposed to open it to get the information out to past into the data box. I ended up having to create a new account so I could log on here to ask. My classic user Id was Everl0st. I have neither my old password nor my old email account anymore. I was hoping to find my old password and transfer all those credits.

See the solution here on your other post.

Message 229198 - Posted: 11 Jan 2006, 4:57:41 UTC - in response to Message 189725.

Are both of my SETI Classic accounts linked to my BOINC account?

I had an account from 1999-2001 or so, and lost the password when I got a new IP and could no longer access my old email. Then I created a new Classic account that ran from 2001-2005. I've already attached this 2nd account to BOINC and been running that for a few months.

If I go to this page http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_email_form.php and input each email address it tells me for BOTH emails/accounts that "The SETI@home/BOINC account linked to that Classic account has already been validated. Its user name is...". Does this mean both Classic accounts are transferred to my BOINC (I know I only had the password for the 2nd account when I set up BOINC in June05 or so.) If not, is there some way I can retrieve/add that 99-01 credit?

Now that that Classic accounts have all been closed, I want to inquire whether there's a way to link my other Classic account?

There is an error in the SETI database records for my classic account. I have successfully provided the account transfer dialog with all the information it requires, but it says:

No SETI@home/BOINC account with Classic ID 5419275 was found

my account email is fred@gruntose.com and it is still visible on seti classic at:
http://setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu/fcgi-bin/fcgi?email=fred%40gruntose.com&cmd=user_stats_new
but it cannot be found within the new boinc version's account database.

i know i'm providing personal information above, but i have found no other options than to post this information here. i think that my account problem cannot be resolved unless the seti@home administrators *re-import* my classic account info.
i joined after the initial synching date in march 2005, in april 2005. i believe that some error occurred during the next synchronization, because my classic account info has never been available from the new system. i was hoping that the final update from seti classic would cure this problem, but it has not.
please help &
thanks,
fred.

Message 230389 - Posted: 13 Jan 2006, 1:55:00 UTC - in response to Message 172086.

I also have an existing classic account with an email address that I just recently lost access to due to a major change in the way our organization wished to distribute e-mails. Given that I had well over 150,000 WU on the account, I would really like to get this linked to my new BOINC account. When I try using the various new forms to link my old account to the new, it comes up with a bad password, even after using the form that takes an existing user_info.sah file to get the password...

Is there any alternate way to gain access to linking the accounts?

If you are using this form;
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_email_form.php and are entering the information asked for it should work. I don't know how you can get the message "No SETI@home/BOINC account with Classic ID 5419275 was found". If it can't find your classic email address how can it tell what the classic ID of the account was?

This is the form you should be using to link your classic account to your BOINC account: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_email_form.php

What happens when you fill in all the requested info in this form?

exactly; how can it give me that response? as far as i can tell, because of either a software bug or an error in the database records. i can fix neither of those situations. the form gives me this message every time i attempt it. i have verified and re-verified my account keys and passwords (the same keys and passwords work for logging into boinc and into classic seti). it accepts all of that information, but then provides that same response. the response indicates to me the following: seti administrators need to resolve this issue and the user cannot.
are there any seti administrators that can help me out and investigate this situation? i see repeatedly in this thread that "no credit will be lost", but it certainly seems like my records from classic seti are in a painful in-between limbo state.

There were a few answers, so I gotta wonder what you mean, exactly.

In any case, I've emailed setidb. We'll see what happens. I know they have little if no time for manual work on single accounts, but it is unfortunate that the tools to extract a password/account from a sah file only just became available.

My issue has been resolved by the SETI administrators! Most excellent.
There was apparently a fix on january 14:

January 14, 2006
SETI@home Classic users: if you've been unable to link your BOINC and Classic accounts (with the error message 'No SETI@home/BOINC account with Classic ID xxxx was found') please try again; we fixed a bug in the script.

It's not certain proof, but it is at least a very good indication, that intelligent life exists at SETI and that this form of life reads the community message boards here.
thank you seti admins,
please excuse my jocularity,
fred.
