I have an existing account that I have attempted to transfer to my new BOINC account however either I am putting in the wrong email address or seti doesn't validate the information.
I still have the classic software on my pc showing I have completed 104 units.
Is there a method to work back from the old account id that will my units to be successfuly transferred?
I have tried filling the information in on the account transfer form but the email address is not being validated?
Can the account be validated without the email address?

How did you try to link?
Do you know this page?
BTW: Why use a hex editor on user_info.sah? It's a text file...

My original account has over 4400hrs and 300+ units completed and has been active for at least 4 or 5 yrs. I no longer have access to the email address that it was setup on. I have that email address and my key, but everytime i try to link it with my new account i get the error: BAD OR WRONG CLASSIC KEY. Please help me resolve this ASAP so i can start using Bionc! If this can not be resolved i feel that i will probably stop using Seti@home altogether.

Obviously Seti Classic remembers an other password than you do ;-)=
In that case try with an e-mail to: setidba@ssl.berkeley.edu

But try to be a bit patient. "ASAP"s and such things are not very helpful in a project where almost everyone is volunteering...

I have three computers running the SETI@HOME app. Two are on the new BOINC software and one is on the old basic. I want to transfer the old account to the new system but I no longer have access to the original email addy.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=116011

My preference would be for all three accounts to be on my same email address (this one, rhadkins2002@gmail.com).

The account listed as "Richard Adkins - Office" is the one I'm having difficulty migrating.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

As near as I can tell, the old software seems to be chugging along nicely though I don't understand for 0.00 recent average credit.

THANKS!!
Rick

Without any further info I can only place some wild guesses:

1) Could be that you have already linked to another account - don't laugh, this has happened quite often. The only way to find out is trying to remember and looking up in profiles. BTW: The crucial part of your account is not the users nick, but his mail address!
2) Could be that you became a Classic user only after March 2005. In that case there would be no information in the BOINC system yet, as it has been transferred in March last time.
3) Could be that you changed you mail addy after March 2005. Then you'd have to attach with the old mail addy.

I am getting the message (maybe an error, maybe not):

The SETI@home/BOINC account linked to that Classic account has already been validated.

Does this mean that I am already linked? My account stats arent correct but is that probably just because they havent been updated from classic in 8 or so months?

Hiya MadScience_7... you are correct on all counts.

You have successfully linked to your Classic account. You can tell by your signup date to the left under your avatar, and also by the fact that your profile shows Classic credits. You are also correct that your stats are off simply because they have not been updated in a while. Next month Classic will be shutting down for good, and some time after that they will complete the transfer of Classic credits. Then they will show up correctly in all of our accounts. :)

Welcome to BOINC!

Are both of my SETI Classic accounts linked to my BOINC account?

I had an account from 1999-2001 or so, and lost the password when I got a new IP and could no longer access my old email. Then I created a new Classic account that ran from 2001-2005. I've already attached this 2nd account to BOINC and been running that for a few months.

If I go to this page http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/sah_email_form.php and input each email address it tells me for BOTH emails/accounts that "The SETI@home/BOINC account linked to that Classic account has already been validated. Its user name is...". Does this mean both Classic accounts are transferred to my BOINC (I know I only had the password for the 2nd account when I set up BOINC in June05 or so.) If not, is there some way I can retrieve/add that 99-01 credit?

You can only link ONE Classic account to a BOINC account.

There are some fields in a SETI@home BOINC account where one Classic account id, the computed Classic Wus and the computed Classic time where inserted. And the date when you joined the project with the Classic account is set. After the final shutdown of the Classic database the WUs and CPU time will be changed to the last value from the Classic database.

That's all. No merging or linking more then one account.

If you have no access to a Classic account (because of a not working email or unknown password) you will not get access to the migrated BOINC instance of this account. Sometimes in the past the project administrators help out with manually changes, but I don't believe that this is still possible when many thousands of Classic users move to BOINC in the next weeks.

AFAIK you can link only one Classic account to your Seti BOINC account.

In your place I'd wait until final Classic accounts are transferred to Seti BOINC (which will be some time after shutdown of Classic) and then compare the numbers.

If needed you an then e-mail setidba and ask them to merge the old account as well. I don't know if they'll do it without a 'prove', so if you happen to have a backup of your old seti directory be prepared to send them one or another file from it.

I joined SetiClassic AFTER March 2005, so BOINC won't know my Email Addy of the Classic Account. I joined in April 05 and have since then completed nearly 600 WU's. Would by a pity if I'd loose them.

Will there be another check for newer Classic Accounts? Otherwise I'd have to start from the beginning :-(

Okay so I created a boinc account and started using the software today, then went back to transfer the old seti units. I needed the account key to do that and could not get it emailed to me no matter how much I tried.. but then found it in a post somewhere.. you can find it in the file sched_request_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml in the programs root folder... open it and the second line that says authenticator is your account key. Thankfully I had my classic seti account password written down somewhere... a string of numbers and it transfered the old work units except only until march 2005 which is at 1,696 and my current as of today is 1,947. Do I lose these additional units permanently since march or will they be credited at some point or is there some other way? Anyone? anyone? Bueller? Good luck everyone :)

I do not see any instructions on how to transfer my account from classic to the new stuff. I currently have over 36,470 classic data units. It looks to me that as of 12/15/05 I will no longer be running seti because I can not get transfered.

Why isn't there some straight forward way to get this done?

I did what every I was ask the first time Boinc was offered. It says something about me having an account but it is not getting any credits.

My email address is mssinc@michiesoftware.com if someone wants to point me in the correct direction.

Yes, when Classic is completely shut down (Dec 15th), there will be a final snapshot and an update of everyone's final count from classic. Nothing will be lost.

My problem is that my Classic account somehow had no email address recorded. So when I try to use the transfer page, I get an error saying Unable to handle request: Must supply an email address. That's whichever section of the account transfer page I fill in.

Over-zealous field validation?

I suppose it doesn't matter. I can just start over with the BOINC account. Annoying, though.
