I found an odd completion time for a WU while checking my results!
A p4 2.4 HT enabled with benchmarks superior than my 3.2 using Linux crunched a WU in 9 min. while i took 1H:17min!

That's an awesome optimized client or there is a bug on this validation and the result shouldn't been validated?

It is entirely possible that they hit the bug where after a restart, the previous CPU time disappears permanently. It is believed that this has been fixed recently.

First, John McLeod is right. This user has 4.19 version of Boinc. So, in fact the P4HT got less CPU time and credit that it deserved.

Second, the client being used is described here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=19865

Enjoy.

I just had a downloaded WU that took 23 sec and then uploaded and got validated and the following was on the WU:

<core_client_version>4.45</core_client_version>
<stderr_txt>
SETI@Home Informational message -9 result_overflow
NOTE: The number of results detected exceeds the storage space allocated.

</stderr_txt>

Is this a computer error or what? I just started using this PC so I want to be sure it's setup is correct. BTW this is the same PC i been trying to put SP2 on and if you look you will see i was once again unable to :(

Message -9 means that the work unit had so many signals detected in it that the whole work unit is probably overwhelmed by terrestrial interference. It took your PC 23 seconds to detect more 'candidate signals' than an entire typical work unit.

Such work units are called 'noisy' work units.

If the others who crunch that work unit return similar errors, then all of you will get credit for the small amount of time it took to crunch the unit (there is scientific value to eliminating that work unit; it just doesn't represent a lot of actual work).
No animals were harmed in the making of the above post... much.
