Every time I download a project and it gets done downloading, the project still says status = downloading, even after I let it sit for a couple of hours. I have tried downloading new projects, reattaching the project, etc. Does anyone have any ideas?

Yea,I have an idea...please try reading a few threads before you post another message that has been hashed over 1.78 million times.

Thank you.

Well thank you for your input, but I have looked at all the treads in this board and none of them seem to address the problem; I will now move over to the technical board and search there; if I find anything I will let you know.

WEll I have looked through 4 pages of the technical board and I only found 1 thread that relates and they still haven't solved the problem.

BOINC does not work. I installed this program about a week ago, attached SETI, and it has yet to do any work. Not only that, how can you tell if you downloaded anything or if any work is going on? No way to verify operations since it is suspended when you are doing anything including looking at the BOINC program page.

Anyone else having big problems with BOINC?

Thanks, Dayton

BOINC is a piece of junk. It's that simple. Unlike classic SETI@home, it's neither convenient, nor reliable. Changing its settings is impossible without logging onto the BOINC website, unlike classic SETI@home. It tends to take over the system, unlike classic SETI@home. Currently, there are NO work units whatsoever available. With classic SETI@home, I processed over 1400 workunits. I like the SETI project and believe in what they're doing, but if they don't get their act together, I'm out of here (and so are a lot of others, I'm guessing).

The entire SETI@Home project's been having server issues this week (apparently some virus hit Berkley Sunday), if you want to blame anything, blame the right things. Site news says they're re-compressing the WU load (I assume that means preparing it for public distribution). Who knows when it'll finish. Tonight, I've been consistently getting:

SETI@home - 2004-07-21 21:10:41 - No schedulers responded

Might mean they're finishing things up, might mean something else broke down.

The BOINC team is to blame for this frustration. They need to update the status with a better expectation than "we are compressing logs" You can sure see the customer service different from the private section. Most all of the messages in this message board would go away, if they set the expectation and were open that they had server problems, were overwhelmed with the numbers moving to the boinc version. Put on the home page that it may take 24-48 hours to get initial work. Once I get work, it goes fine. does not over take my cpu.

I think the other problem is that EVERYONE is requesting several days of work not the default of .1 to 1 days. Unlike Seti classic which did one at at time. you now have individuals requesting 10+ units at a time. I set mine back to 2 day max and I seem to get more work with less errors. I may bump it up when the server stablizes.

Frank,

Under the projects tab, try right-clicking the SETI@home project and the 'update' item in the pop-up menu.
