Yesterday I switched from classical SETI to the BOINC thingy. Maybe it should have been acronymed BOUNCE instead because ever since, all I get in return is SETI@home - 2004-07-20 11:58:40 - Message from server: No work available SETI@home - 2004-07-20 11:58:40 - No work from project and words to that effect. How come? The transition, and activation of my account seems to have succeeded and I can see my statistics OK. |

If you check the front page, you'll see the servers have been having problems. <a> |

We have restarted the splitters and they are back to creating new workunits." Notice the past tense in those statements, and in your unhelpful reply as well. I am talking present tense here: possibly the servers ARE having problems - and that is not what the front page says. |

> Notice the past tense in those statements, and in your unhelpful reply as > well. I'm sorry I tried to give you some information. It won't happen again. Have you looked at the front page recently? (I hesitate to ask...) July 19, 2004 We have brought up an additional transitioner to try and cut through the backlog we have accrued. Since the beginning of the project we have already processed 2.7 million results. For comparison, the beta project had only processed 6 million through the whole life of that project to date. (Emphasis added by me. Note the past tense) <a> |

There's no point in we the users getting the shits with each other. The problem lives at UC Berkeley. Visit their web site http://www.berkeley.edu/ and pick a department to have a go at. I've tried their computing department and the chancellors office. I might not get anything done but at least I feel better than just having a go at someone on this forum. It's pretty obvious that whoever is running the project doesn't read what's posted in this discussion. the man from the land down under |

I wonder if the lack of work at Seti is also causing problems at predictor. Predictor's web site has been down most of the day, but when it was available, I did notice that there were about 500 new users since last night (there's only about 6300 total). All the posts here about joining perdictor may have flooded predictor, and they just shut down the main page until Seti get's it act together (no new folks can sign up for predictor) But I still can get work from predictor! |

And don't quote the "owners manual".... Heck, I'm crunching/sending/recv'ing Pretictor Wu's just fine! (and have been all day! So tell us oh Grand and knowledgeable one, why? Yes, no new Predictor users, as they got flooded (as an alpha project) when Boinc/Seti (live) fell flat on it's face! You just seem to want to attack me as I'm not a "cheerleader" for this Seti/Boinc mess, but do point out that Predictor seems to have their heads in a place where "the sun does shine"! (they are both BOINC based!) The fact that there was a 10% in users on Predictor with the "no work" at Seti and the "join Predictor" messages here in the last day, just might mean that they want to block another 500 new users in the next 24 hours so they can manage and debug their app! Something that the Seti Chimps didn't do after the system started burping on 6/24! Apples and Oranges (or Rotten apples and ripe oranges)! |

> I wonder if the lack of work at Seti is also causing problems at predictor. I was also wondering if they got overloaded due to the recent S@H outage. And Pascal, what is so wrong about this train of thought? Seems perfectly logical to me... <a> |
