In SETI Server.
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html

Problems is very large files in directory (Penguin).

One process needs processor times to complete it task.
The subsystem(OS) too busy to responds one process is many million files in direstory .

Admin added more task that is more threads.
More difference threads is more cpu time slice.
Each time slice is a bit processor lost performance.

Penguin run 440 MHz dual cpu.
But handle 8 file_deleter, 2 transitioner, 4 sah_validate, 4 sah_assimilator !!!

??? Where is kryten ???

If possible please reduce to 2 file_deleter, 2 transitioner, 2 sah_validate, 2 sah_assimilator.

The 8 file deleters that you see running there aren't the normal ones. They are solely deleting the antique or orphaned files. Those that wre returned way after their deadline, when the others were deleted already.

That everything is down is just so the database is purged of the antique files, so the validator is capable of running the whole backlog of files waiting for validation in a normal way, not that it is constantly hampered by thee antique files.

The server the database is run on is not in the list. The main BOINC database server (a dual CPU Sun Opteron V40z with 16GB RAM) is attached by fibre to RAIDed storage (a one-terabyte Sun 3510). That is the place where all the antique files are housing.

Not Penguin. :)
