I downloaded as per the instructions, it resides in file:/home/peterhin/Boinc/boinc_3.20_i686-pc-linux-gnu.
It tells me the file is 8.1MB and is executable.
Now what do I do.?

well, best way to use executable files is ... to execute them!

After that attach to the project you´ve chosen.

try this:

home/peterhin/Boinc/./boinc_3.20_i686-pc-linux-gnu. -return_results_immediately

And it should work if all is well....
