How come when you put BOINCManager in the Startup Items, it launches and according to Activity Monitor is working, but the GUI window is nonexistent and the File, Tools & Help contextual menus are also absent? It does this on a 600 G3, 800 G4, 1.2 G4 & 1.25 G4 all running 10.3.9.

Surprisingly enough the screen saver works, but is it ok to leave it in this mode and just assume that it's operating correctly as far as up/down loads go, etc...? Using the SETI website to monitor their function seems unreliable because of the delays in updating of information.

The GUI clients for Macintosh utilize a menubar control. You should see a circle with a B in it, to the right side of the menubar. Click on that and select show BOINC manager (or something similar, I'm not at my Mac at the moment). If it is greyed out the first time, then just release and click again. (There are a few bugs in the Macintosh GUI version still.) To get the BOINC menus to show, you will need to click on the boinc icon in the dock.

DOH! Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious to me. At least now I know. Does running BOINC from the Menu bar use fewer CPU cycles than the full GUI Manager?

If you have the BOINC Manager window showing, it does use additional CPU cycles up to several percent depending on the computer. When the window is closed though it doesn't. So the advanced GUI does not use any more cycles, as long as the Boinc Manger window is closed.
