I've seen the answer to this, but can't find it now. Can someone point me to that information or outline the steps so I don't lose any work for myself, or anyone else's because of missed deadlines? I can wait long enough for a smooth transition. Had a power outage today and my server sat here doing nothing for hours while I was at work... bummer... :( Thanks, T |

You should be able to just reinstall boinc using the service install setting instead of the single user setting. I've upgraded severall times with no loss of work and no problems with WU's. If you want to be absolutely sure, just make a copy of the BOINC directory. If something should go wrong we can help you restore the back up. Deal? Confirming Jim's suggestion! I always made a backup copy of the entire boinc folder (and will do), installed the new version to the same location and never had to use my backup. Andy Want to know your pending credit? The biggest bug is sitting 10 inch in front of the screen. |

Use the update procedure in the wiki ... goes through all the steps ... Thanks Paul, but I was looking in there last night before posting. My head was starting to pound and my eyes were bulging. It was probably right in front of my face... Ahhhh, very well. Is this the one? It looks familiar. http://boinc-doc.net/boinc-wiki/index.php?title=Updating_The_BOINC_Client_Software c'Ya, TV |

Use the update procedure in the wiki ... goes through all the steps ... BTW, I don't know if this affects anyone else, but, everytime I've done a service install in windows, after I've given it an appropriate username, and password, and then told it that it's fine to use the localsystem account if necessary, it has never actually done so. The upshot of all this is that when boinc fires up, it reports that it cannot display graphics. To fix this, if you want to; you need to change the services logon, so that it uses the localsystem account, and give it the ability to 'interact with the desktop'. Damn! I've been trying to post some pics about this, but can't seem to FTP anything from here, and my server at home has just gone non-responsive to remote access, but, I'm fairly sure that there is actually some stuff about setting up the boinc service, in Pauls' WIKI. Best wishes, Ken P. Ken Phillips BOINC question? Look here "The beginning is the most important part of the work." - Plato |

I got the pictures to document that step and I cannot remember if I got them in before my brain went on vacation on me. If I did, I think I put up the images, just did not write out the steps, but you can see it off of the install processes if you follow down the service install path (which has the extra steps). |
