You dislike how the project is run and many aspects of the project itself, but you and those like you stick around complaining. You must be some kind of Seti masochist to continue to support a project that brings you such woe. It's like you're making delicious macaroni and cheese, only the boiling water scalds you every time and you don't like powdered cheese. However, you continue to make the harmful sidedish for some odd reason. Oh the injustice of the situation! |

We have brought up another transitioner to try and cut through the backlog faster. So that brings us up to 5 transitioners and 3 splitters. I'll be watching it for awhile and see what else might need tweaking. A week ago we were at 55,000 registered hosts, today 100,000 hosts. Before this latest hiccup BOINC was processing 200,000 WU's a day. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team, U.C. Berkeley |

"You must be some kind of Seti masochist to continue to support a project that brings you such woe." If you'd readmore than jsut the last post.....you see I uninstalled BOINC and reinstalled SETI classic. Yes, I am VERY militant about my SETI cause. I believe in alien life and I want to find them before they find us. Think about the first human explorers. Aliens will be coming here to plunder our planet for resources.....not make friends with the "insects" currently inhabiting this world. Face it folks. One alien who can imitate the "miracles" performed in the Bible will have this planet handed to him in a hand-basket by the beLIEvers. </img> |

Hello guies, I had the same problem than the author of this thread since I've installed Boinc and migrated my sah classic account and finally was able to get only one wu. On another hand my sah classic client can't retrieve my account when installing on a new comp, is sah classic over? |

Even the leaders in IT aren't perfect. Plus, the company I work at, there are various departments, such as word processing, graphics, storeroom, etc. If I as a member of my group wish to use their services, those departments charge my department for their time. I know at my school that if one department wanted to use another departments facilities or personel, they were often charged for the use. I would imagine UCB works in a similar way. If I'm wrong, they still have to hire people and pay them (even students) to work on the project. So regardless of whether I am right or wrong, it still comes down to the fact that they have limited resources on personel AND equipment. If you don't want to give them a break and want to continue to gripe, give them the resources they need and then gripe all you want. Chris > Give them a break?? NO WAY > > Berkley claim to be a world leader in IT - if they can't get a simple > scheduling problem fixed then they're no better than the Bullamakanka primary > school as far as IT goes. > > It's a scheduler problem and a resource problem - - we provide an immense > resource to Berkley for nothing - all of our machines buzzing away and they > pay nothing - not even respect to the providers. > > We deserve the right to be kept informed and to have the amount of work > required to keep our machines working to full capacity. > > Every body who has a problem with "no work" should send an email directly to > Berkley. LOL. That was .. awesome. :) Entertaining and well said. Thank you. Chris > That was well said, MegaByte, but I think you're giving many (most?) Plus, in the paraphrased words of one of the people on the Dev Team, "you are in a for a big surprise when it happens that all of the SETI data collecters in the world are not able to keep up with the demand for workunits." So you might as well get used to it now. Chris > Don't give me that "switch to this > > or that project". I want to work this project. > > > > I completely understand that mindset. I also only want to work for Seti@home, > and it's the only project my Boinc is attatched to. > > However, people who make the voluntary decision to stay a solo-Seti@home > cruncher need to accept the hard realities of life - it's a beta, and it has > bugs. Militant about your SETI cause? Why? You may be right, you may be wrong. Who knows. Just deal with things right now. There is nothing you're going to be able to do to speed up BOINC short of donating powerful server hardware and manpower to UCB, so just keep your pants on and be patient. If you can't do that now, then you are screwed down the road when everything is working smoothly and as fast as possible on Berkeley's end and there is STILL not enough data to go around. Can't handle that? Then you chose the wrong "cause." I'm just waiting patiently to get a bit work from SETI. Hopefully I'll get something to work on soon via BOINC. |
